Észak-Korea és Irán is fellép a nukleáris hatalmak pódiumára, az USA és Oroszország fegyverkorlátozási lépései nem bizonyulnak hathatósnak: 26000 atomfegyver létezéséről biztosan tudnak mindkét országban. Ráadásul a Doomsday Clock körül csoportosuló tudósok a nukleráis katasztrófa mellett az éghajlatváltozást is megnevezik az apokaliptikus éjfélhez sodró tényezőként.
