Lighting Modifiers Cheat Sheet Card | DIYPhotography.net - 0 views

  • So we had a Portrait Lighting Cheat Sheet that was designed to help placing the light in space around the model. While I called it portrait lighting cheat sheet card, I was only telling half of the truth. The half that I did not include in that card was how different modifiers will change the light falling on your subject. It is time to correct this wrong, so this lighting modifiers cheat sheet completes this gap. There are some new things on this sheet, like a perfectly still model, dark walls to control reflections and a few beers that you can not spot in the actual card. But they were there. Trust me.

Speedlights vs Studio Lights - 0 views

  • We all need one good TTL hot shoe speedlight for walk-about bounce use (do use your white bounce card). And that result can be mighty good too, but then we often wonder what happens if we try a little harder? Off camera lights make a big difference. Umbrellas make a really big difference - when up close they give very a soft light, very flattering for portraits. And another light or two makes a really big difference too. The question then is which way to go? It is easy to put speedlights into umbrellas, and this works well. Or we could get actual studio lights. The following comparison speaks of more studied fixed setup multiple lights, like for umbrellas in the living room. The following about the difference is intended to be an introduction for those not yet familiar with these studio practices. There is a strong Nikon bias here, but much of this is not brand specific.

Digital cameras expand our view of photography | New Jersey Business - - NJ.com - 1 views

  • As it happens, camera makers, driven by the competition, are bringing lots of features to their cameras. Here are 11 trends in digital cameras, as exemplified by 11 relatively new models (or soon-to-be-released ones). Retail prices are included, if available.High-definition videoA number of cameras, like the Canon PowerShot SX1 IS ($600), have been equipped with full-blown high-definition video capabilities — yet another reason to ditch your video camera. You can connect the SX1 IS directly to a high-definition monitor.“Intelligent” optionsAutomatic doesn’t just mean the camera adjusts settings for lighting. Camera makers keep trying to make automatic even smarter. With Nikon’s “scene auto selector” capabilities, available in the Coolpix S640 ($250) and other models, the camera analyzes a scene and makes adjustments depending on whether it’s a portrait, landscape or other type of shot.
  • Canon’s PowerShot SD980 IS ($330) includes touch-screen controls, making it possible to select a focus point, flip between images, and otherwise control the camera by touching a screen.

The rest were closely matched, but we liked the pictures coming from Samsung's SL820 most consistently. This was a surprise, as it's not the marque we'd have guessed would come out on top before we started testing The Samsung SL820 has the most solid feel here, and the most heft too.
