I was most interested in math-focused projects because this is a subject area I did frequent "project work" to try and put the curriculum in context, but I never achieved anything close to high-quality PBL.

The project outline for "Every Vote Counts" on MyPBLWorks site was most intriguing because it ties to recent and ongoing news about gerrymandering and voter suppression. There is a standalone project I have from previous years around using ratios to draw district lines fairly and that could make a great intro lesson to this project. This project is aligned with ratio math standards, but could also extend into statistical display and analysis perhaps even some geometry.

The authenticity and potential products from this PBL project have the potential to be presented publicly and tie to other social justice movements in the local community. I believe this type of project would be accepted in my school and potentially could be a collaboration with social studies teachers for cross-curricular lessons. Most importantly, I believe students would be invested in the outcome of this project and have be more informed citizens as a result.
