An Awesome Article about MOOC - 0 views

  • A MOOC is a course offered for free (though some places will charge a fee for accreditation) over the Internet to anyone on the planet (thus making it massive!).
  • The first MOOC that was named such was created by Canadian professors George Siemens and Stephen Downes in 2008, and the term was coined by Dave Cormier to describe their efforts. They created a course called "Connectivism and Connected Knowledge" that was offered for a fee to a small number of university students, but was also simultaneously offered free online to more than 2200 registered online students.
  • But in 2011, things changed radically as computer science took a foray into MOOCs.
