The communication typically takes place through e-mail and in virtual discussion forums. While this can aid in learning technology, it negatively impacts a student's ability to interact with professors, ask questions and get immediate help. It also takes away from some of the social and team-building that occurs informally in college classrooms.

      I chose this article due to its depth, its credibility, and the facts portrayed in the article. The claim stated in the article is a very strong claim. The cons of online courses seem to be greater than the benefits of an on campus course, in this case the advance of technology is hurting the education of the students rather than making an improvement for them.

    Advanced technology believe it or not has not been helping with education progression, This article puts the hammer on the nail when it comes down to it. it is credible because it's the UK's online paper, has 2.3 million likes on facebook and has accounts on various sites and also written by a credible journalist. it goes in depth and explains why these statistics are declining. Right in this one sentence proves our argument against technology helping digital literacy.

  • As technology has played a bigger role in our lives, our skills in critical thinking and analysis have declined, while our visual skills have improved, according to research by Patricia Greenfield, UCLA distinguished professor of psychology and director of the Children's Digital Media Center, Los Angeles.
  • Among the studies Greenfield analyzed was a classroom study showing that students who were given access to the Internet during class and were encouraged to use it during lectures did not process what the speaker said as well as students who did not have Internet access. When students were tested after class lectures, those who did not have Internet access performed better than those who did.

      These are a couple of points I took form this article to show you all. It touches on a lot that I believe refutes the claim well. If you read the article further you can see how well it shows the decline of our literacy skills through technology use.

    We live more in our heads than any society has at any time in history, and for some the only reality is the one inside their heads. Our society is a very work-oriented place- we try to fill up our schedules to the brim in an attempt to get as much done as possible. It has never occurred to many people that doing that much work may have negative psychological effects, such as preventing them from pursuing hobbies and spending quality time with family. Technology has a very much similar effect. First, when you get a phone you check it occasionally, maybe under the dinner table. Soon you start checking it more often and out in the open, sometimes not hearing what people say and even missing whole conversations. It can even get worse than that in some situations.
