Arbinger does a great job of this through story telling. Perhaps by getting others to tell their stories, real-life Tweddle stories, we could root out a teachable point?
This is a great article from the founder of Khan Academy. While his research is obviously focused on child learning, the principles for learning in general are fantastic. Also he points toward celebrating failure. Truly worth the read.
Perhaps not the complete radical change that Mr. Khan has done with traditional education, for our needs. Maybe instead more "hands on" experience in the class, with reference material to take away and devour at a personal pace.
