This Eduwar between Ravtich and the unions vs the "corporatists", Gates, Rhee, etc… is occurring against a backdrop of our society completely dropping the ball when it comes to redesigning our schools away from the agrarian/industrial model with which we persist... Apartheid in our public schools will come roaring back - leaving the core- property tax based schools with providing mandated special education services, and educating those who can't find a way out of these schools into something more newfangled.
