I am running last minute on this but here are some points I would like to make based on my contributed sources.
With features like auto correct and the development and growth of text language coupled with the growth of technology vs. the stall of America's ranking in education, it is apparent that the direction of American literacy is not in a forward motion. With trends rendering literacy all but unnecessary the end result may not be an illiterate generation but one who speaks and writes a language that is very different from our own. As we no longer speak the kings English, we can come to the conclusion that we are, to extent, only some what literate. With the addition of distorting what remains of the lexicon we find ourselves with one conclusion. We are becoming less literate of the current lexicon as time passes and the language changes
