MySpace Developer Platform Launching on February 5th - 0 views

  • MySpace has just announced that they will be launching their developer platform on February 5th. You can pre-register now by going to http://developer.myspace.com (requires login).
  • rom a technology perspective, Kapur says most of the specific details will be released on the 5th, but he did emphasize that the company has maintained an open relationship with widget developers, and wants them to be able to use data from MySpace in their applications, potentially including your friend’s list. With Facebook moving to allow developers to host applications on third-party sites and DataPortability continuing to gain traction, this seems like the only way to go.
  • Finally, Kapur told me that the MySpace Developer Program will support Google OpenSocial from day one. This may provide a much needed boost for OpenSocial, which has received criticism for offering very little in the way of tangible products since being announced.

Yahoo! Search Blog: The Yahoo! Search Open Ecosystem - 0 views

  • A few weeks ago, we began talking about the new Yahoo! Search open platform. Today, we're releasing more details about two important components of the initiative -- the developer platform as well as our support of a number of semantic web standards.
  • By supporting semantic web standards, Yahoo! Search and site owners can bring a far richer and more useful search experience to consumers. For example, by marking up its profile pages with microformats, LinkedIn can allow Yahoo! Search and others to understand the semantic content and the relationships of the many components of its site. With a richer understanding of LinkedIn's structured data included in our index, we will be able to present users with more compelling and useful search results for their site. The benefit to LinkedIn is, of course, increased traffic quality and quantity from sites like Yahoo! Search that utilize its structured data.
  • In the coming weeks, we'll be releasing more detailed specifications that will describe our support of semantic web standards. Initially, we plan to support a number of microformats, including hCard, hCalendar, hReview, hAtom, and XFN. Yahoo! Search will work with the web community to evolve the vocabulary framework for embedding structured data. For starters, we plan to support vocabulary components from Dublin Core, Creative Commons, FOAF, GeoRSS, MediaRSS, and others based on feedback. And, we will support RDFa and eRDF markup to embed these into existing HTML pages. Finally, we are announcing support for the OpenSearch specification, with extensions for structured queries to deep web data sources.

Thoughts on Data Portability - 0 views

  • The DataPortability workgroup’s strongest voice, Chris Saad, noted among the DataPortability Design Principles that the mission ought to be less “fight the man” and more practical and useful goals. It will be interesting to see if the group’s finalized vision is limited to the import/export use cases, because these surely have the least potential. Otherwise, portability may not really matter to an average user, but the benefits to the user experience surely do, and I think selling DataPortability means selling the huge benefits of an efficient, distributed Web experience.
  • Forward-thinkers are creating innovative interfaces to your distributed data, and products are going to evolve quickly. Figuring out what portability means, what the best technologies are, and how this all looks from the user’s perspective are all pieces of a large puzzle that will strongly affect the future of the Web.

explain URLs more what they mean. Isn't there some access token URL for Host and the Requester? And an authorization URL?

Check out this link very informative and interesting, i have found on web http://welearners.com

In case this is OAuth 2.0 there needs to be a client id with which the client can be identified by the AM and in the end to the user. In OAuth this needs to be registered before. How to do this dynamically?

I think REST is not always working as not everything IMHO fits the REST model. At least not the 4 verbs. POST might mean many things.

How do you define if e.g. the AM should directly ask the user? Is this defined in the AM-Host-intro step? It should then maybe say so. Then: How does the AM actually know how to name the Host? You need to ask the user "Requester XXXX wants to get access to YYYY, do you agree?". XXXX and YYYY need to be known and maybe more information about it like some info URL etc.

Even if OAuth defines the flows maybe an example flow should be written out in terms of HTTP requests and responses. Esp. for how claims are supposed to work, how the AM finally informs the requester that all claims are fulfilled etc.
