Practitioners and teachers should provide daily speaking and listening activities that are well matched to children's developing abilities and interests. These activities should draw upon observations and assessments to plan for progression and to identify children who need additional support, for example to discriminate and produce the sounds of speech. In the Read to Someone activity, we see two supportive partners. Tiana subvocalises while Keeley read aloud and seems to know just when to help her decode a word. Keeley does a fantastic job of Check for Understanding at the end, to assist Tiana.

Goggles and Spike show us what 'Check For Understanding' looks like as they buddy up together for 'Read to Someone' during Daly Five literacy. At the end of each page Goggles and Spike take turns to do a simple retell of the page.
