"If you missed Power Searching with Google a few months ago or were unable to complete the course the first time around, now's your chance to sign up again for our free online course that aims to empower our users with the tools and knowledge to find what they're looking for more quickly and easily. The community-based course features six 50-minute classes along with interactive activities and the opportunity to hear from search experts and Googlers about how search works. Beginning September 24, you can take the classes over a two-week period, share what you learn with other students in a community forum, and complete the course assessments to earn a certificate of completion. Edina Technology Integration: Flipping Your Classroom Without Making Your Students Dizzy! - 1 views

  •
There has been a lot of press both locally and nationally, and punditry pro and con lately around "flipping" instruction. "Flipping" is when you create video of your lecture or a demonstration that you would normally do in class, and then post the video for students to watch as homework at home. Proponents point out that this then allows the teacher to either complete activities that normally would be done as homework in class with the support of the teacher, or it allows for hands on activities to take place in the classroom with facilitation from the teacher.

Educational Leadership:For Each to Excel:Preparing Students to Learn Without Us - 0 views

  • "It requires a totally different skill set on the teacher's part," Stutzman says. "We have to be comfortable with being uncomfortable, because we don't know the exact direction that a class will go when we walk in. Depending on student questions, reflections, or activities, our plans could quickly morph into something we never dreamed would happen at the outset." In other words, it's risk and reward. "It's scary not to know exactly where your students will go if their curriculums are potentially different, and it requires a lot of adjusting," Stutzman explains. "But the benefit is that students get to see our genuine reactions to new discoveries as well as to challenges, and they see us model the learning process together." Students understand that there is no one "right" answer that the teacher expects, that there are many answers, and that the teacher and students will likely discover many of these together.
  • What I wonder is whether his classrooms and teachers can help him become a passionate, patient, connected learner who is empowered to truly learn whatever and whenever he needs to.

  •
The flipped classroom, as it is currently being described and publicized, is simply recording the didactic content information via video, having students view these as homework, and then using class time to further discuss these ideas.
