I have started to think about how to help students understand the importance of critically evaluating the information on-line. I have found a few sites over the years and after the year 8 immersion days I believe that it is time to come up with some lessons that teachers can use. We set a Guinness World Record, took 100 teachers on an Alaskan cruise, gave 700 people the experience of laying on a bed of nails, started a war with potato guns, and even had the police called on us... a few times! Here is a look at a few of the fun moments we've had!

In 2010, we used the flipped classroom model with 140 freshman students.  We have reduced the failure rate by 33% in English Language Arts, 31% in Mathematics, 22% in Science and 19% in Social Studies in just one semester.  In addition, we have seen a dramatic reduction of 66% in our total discipline for our freshman group as well.  This approach also allowed us to properly integrate current technologies, guarantee and streamline our curriculum, provide educational services when students and teachers are absent, share staff resources and much, much more... Today, we are flipping our entire high school.  We are committed to giving our students and staff the very best we have to offer and have embraced this opportunity to improve the delivery of our instructional practice.

Now an essential online medium, video is a useful way for teachers to supplement classroom learning and engage students in content they can't access on field trips or through books alone. However, finding and sharing videos can be a challenge due to safety and compliance concerns. That's why M86 Security created VuSafe-the secure, simple way to share Internet videos.

TEACHING IDEAS AND TIPS FOR KINDERGARTEN AND PRE-K TEACHERS

Each of our three gaming websites feature teacher-developed content that includes specially selected financial education concepts and skills appropriate for each age group to learn and master. Just don't tell them they will be learning while they have fun!

It was the end of term at Kirkkojarvi Comprehensive School in Espoo, a sprawling suburb west of Helsinki, when Kari Louhivuori, a veteran teacher and the school's principal, decided to try something extreme-by Finnish standards. One of his sixth-grade students, a Kosovo-Albanian boy, had drifted far off the learning grid, resisting his teacher's best efforts. The school's team of special educators-including a social worker, a nurse and a psychologist-convinced Louhivuori that laziness was not to blame. So he decided to hold the boy back a year, a measure so rare in Finland it's practically obsolete.

This year as part of my assistant principal duties I have the privilege of overseeing ENL instruction and learning in my school.  This week at my district AP meeting our ENL coordinator shared a great tip that administrators who have ENL/ESL students can share with their teachers.
