Creating new profiles on Google Apps and maintaining them make little sense to me, because I will have to manage multiple accounts under the same name. Also if somebody searches for my name, getting 3 profiles also does not do me any good.

www.google.com/calendar/iphoneselect ... also worked for me. It allows you to check which google calendars you want synced to your iPhone. Unfortunately the google help page on getting the iOS calendar syncing set up currently sends you to "http://m.google.com", which is not the correct page.
