Being Eric Schmidt (On Facebook) - 0 views

  • As soon as the account was created I was asked to verify the email address. I ignored that and instead just turned off all email notifications. But I can still use the account to add friends, accept friend requests, like status posts, and send and receive messages. Messages occasionally pop up saying “Before you can interact with other people on Facebook, you need to confirm your email address.” But most activity isn’t restricted at all.
  • The person being impersonated may see the Facebook confirmation email. But since they didn’t just create an account the obvious thing to do is to ignore that email, not to click on the link. But by ignoring it they are letting me continue to pretend to be them.

Main: Facebook Inside Xperia™ time zone problem - 0 views

  • it's general facebook problem, which stores all times for all users worldwide as their pacific time zone value. All websites, desktop applications, social plugins, addons, widgets have to deal with that. Even original fb app had a problem with displaying correct time but now in my Fb app for android I can see correct time. Unfortunately not in my calendar.

With new Facebook Groups, FriendFeed's gone mainstream. Two years late. - 0 views

  • FriendFeed was, and still is, loved by a loyal following for its fast, powerful social sharing and discussion possibilities.
  • but by stripping those out what we have here is essentially FriendFeed’s vision gone mainstream
  • the team that pioneered realtime discussion and sharing groups at FriendFeed now works at Facebook and its co-creator Bret Taylor is now CTO there
  • ...3 more annotations...
  • “The real value in the new Groups stem from two things”, he tells me. “First, instant group chat… and second, using the Group “wall” is a real-time experience, obviously pulling from the FriendFeed playbook by allowing replies and likes to push conversations to the top of the page without having to refresh. “These are both steps towards an interface familiar to FriendFeed users, but not necessarily ones that will cause them to leave FriendFeed behind.”
  • “There’s nothing broken with FriendFeed, and the community that exists there isn’t going to leave unless they have an imperative reason to do; either a collection of killer features that FriendFeed fails to offer, or FriendFeed is shut down. Until then, FriendFeed’s not going anywhere.”
  • “FriendFeed found a very compelling social formula, but never managed to scale it in the face of Twitter and Facebook’s massive growth. However, the idea itself is rather valuable.

Hello Salesforce Chatter, so long Yammer? | ZDNet - 0 views

  • While Yammer has made some enterprise traction, most companies that use it are smaller to mid-size businesses versus large enterprises. Most large enterprises with whom I’ve spoken about Yammer express trepidation over the service’s pricing and community model. At the same time, SMBs with whom I have spoken about Yammer don’t seem to have the same security or expense concerns, so Yammer could stay a viable solution for the smaller markets. The introduction of Salesforce Chatter, and the already strong SocialText solution, should knock Yammer out of enterprise consideration.
