People often fall victim to human trafficking, especially in the Middle East. The different forms of human trafficking are considered a contemporary form of slavery. Many of the human traffickers are often migrant workers.

The amount of human trafficking victims in the Middle East is 68%. Of the amount of people who are victims, one in four of them is a child. A reason for people falling victim to human trafficking is extreme poverty, entrenched inequality, and a lack of education and opportunity.

There has been an increase in the number of children involved in human trafficking over the years. In past decades one in five human trafficking victims was a child, but now that number has increased to one in three.

In Saudi Arabia if workers file a complaint against their employers about abuse they are usually returned to their employers or pressured to drop the charges. Typically, the employers will file a false counter-argument against the workers for theft, witchcraft, and adultery in retaliation. This country is also accused of failing to take action to reduce the demand of prostitution or child sex tourism. 

Many children who are victims of human trafficking are forced into prostitution, forced labor, and misused for illegal trade of organs. Two thirds of the victims are girls and majority are found in Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia.

Millions of women, children, and men fall victim to modern day slavery especially in the Middle East. Syria was listed as the worst offender in 2012. Victims of human trafficking suffer physical, mental, and emotional abuse while they are taken prisoner. 

Dr. Khelife Hanouti is accused of running an illegal abortion clinic in Algeria. He is also involved in falsifying "disclaimer" documents signed by single mothers and illegally transferring children abroad. He is also involved in kidnapping twin girls and selling them to a couple in France.
