"Home Dialysis Central is a one-stop, online source of up-to-date, unbiased information about home dialysis-in all its forms-for people with kidney disease, their families, and the healthcare professionals who provide kidney disease care. Who developed Home Dialysis Central? The Medical Education Institute (MEI) conceived and developed Home Dialysis Central. MEI is a non-profit organization with the mission of helping people with chronic disease learn to manage and improve their health. You may know us through our work with the Life Options program, or on the original DOQI guidelines. We have nearly fifteen years of experience in national program management in the renal community. MEI coordinated the research, design, development, programming, testing, maintenance, and promotion of Home Dialysis Central. Our in-depth knowledge of kidney disease, treatment options, and the patient experience makes us ideally suited to coordinate this initiative. MEI developed two other successful kidney education websites: Kidney School™, an interactive learning center that attracts 11-15,000 visitors per month, and the award-winning Life Options program, with more than 50,000 visitors per month."

"Excerpt from the Covenant with Black America Without question, education is the key to progress and prosperity in the United States today. Whether fair or not, educational opportunity and academic achievement are directly tied to the social divisions associated with race, ethnicity, gender, first language, and social class. The level and quality of educational attainment either open the doors to opportunity or close them. Education starts at home, in neighborhoods, and in communities. Reading to children, creating time and space for homework, and demonstrating-through words and deeds-that education is important are the key first building blocks for high educational achievement. While schools are responsible for what children are taught, reinforcement at home is essential. As members of the black community, we must take responsibility for educating all our children-whether ours by birth or otherwise-to uplift our people as a whole. - excerpt from Edmund W. Gordon's essay in the Covenant with Black America"

"Slip into something more comfortable... Fact 1: The best nightclubs are notoriously located at either the top or the bottom of a massive flight of stairs. Fact 2: The best nightclub shoes are painful, precarious and perilously pointy. But fear not, girls, for we at Rollasole have appeared like Prince Charmings to gently escort you down the stairs, across the kerb and into the back of your carriage - all without you falling on your face. Rollasoles are the shimmery solution to jaded stiletto-sore feet. When you're all danced out, just slip one of our vending machines a fiver and it'll sort you out with a pair of roly poly pumps and a shiny new bag to shove your slingbacks in. Rollasoles are fun, fashionable and fabulously comfy, so bag yourself a pair and get home in style"

"A few years ago, I realized my son, Jack, didn't exactly love books. We'd always read to him as a baby, and he was beginning to read for school. When he got home, him going to the shelf and picking up a book was about as likely as his pulling out a notebook and solving quantum physics problems. Actually, the latter was more likely. He's a smart kid. So Sue and I took it on ourselves to fix the problem if we could. Starting that summer, and every summer since, we went out and found books that I was pretty sure he'd not just read, but would love to read. That was a big part of the inspiration for READKIDDOREAD. But, more than that, the experience with Jack got me writing books that I hoped he and other kids would love to read. Before then, I'd always written books just for grown-ups. In fact, one of my proudest moments as a writer was when I passed him the manuscript of The Dangerous Days of Daniel X. Not only did he like it, he told me it was his favorite. Anyhow, the Daniel X series, the Maximum Ride series, and the Witch & Wizard series were written for just this purpose. Jack got me writing books that I thought other kids would love. To contribute a few books that hopefully, will make kids readers for life. But don't take my word for it. Read some of the feedback these books have gotten from parents, grandparents, teachers, librarians, and even critics. I hope you and your young readers enjoy them, too."

Google Fiber for Communities: Think big with a gig - 0 views

"Google is planning to launch an experiment that we hope will make Internet access better and faster for everyone. We plan to test ultra-high speed broadband networks in one or more trial locations across the country. Our networks will deliver Internet speeds more than 100 times faster than what most Americans have access to today, over 1 gigabit per second, fiber-to-the-home connections. We'll offer service at a competitive price to at least 50,000 and potentially up to 500,000 people. From now until March 26th, we're asking interested municipalities to provide us with information about their communities through a Request for information (RFI), which we'll use to determine where to build our network"

My Wonderful World -- About the Campaign - 0 views

  •
"My Wonderful World is a National Geographic-led campaign-backed by a coalition of national business and non-profit organizations -to expand geographic learning in school, at home, and in communities. We want to give kids the power of global knowledge. Since the campaign launched, more than 80,000 people like you have signed up to show their support. WHY IT'S IMPORTANT Geography is more than places on a map. It's global connections. People and cultures. Economics and environments. Our young people need to know geography in order to understand today's world-and succeed in tomorrow's. But they're not getting enough of it, in or out of school. A National Geographic-Roper survey shows half of young Americans can't locate world powers like Japan and India. Twenty percent can't even find the Pacific Ocean. Without geography, our children aren't ready for the world. With your help, we can make geography education a priority. Kids who understand our world today can succeed in it tomorrow.

Seattle Knife Sharpening service - 0 views

"Greetings. My name is Bob Tate and I sharpen knives. I currently sharpen knives for a number of restaurants here in Seattle as well as for many home cooks throughout the Northwest and beyond who appreciate a sharp knife. The knives go through a 6-7 step process which leaves them razor sharp. I learned my sharpening technique from master Bladesmith Bob Kramer www.kramerknives.com. Bob sharpened my knives for years when I cooked for a living and recognized my passion for the craft. He generously taught me the sharpening techniques that he has perfected over the last 20 years."
