Deaf Children Worldwide - development arm of NDCS - East Africa - 0 views

  •
According to this site, worldwide, there around 20 million deaf children, 80% of whom live in developing countries. In India alone, there are 3 million deaf children. This org is an international development arm of the National Deaf Children's Society (NDCS). This side provides info on their outreach in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. It's eye opening to read about deaf issues from an international perspective. Example: the UN's Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Article 23 gives children with disabilities equal rights with respect to family life and states that children should not be separated from his or her parents on the basis of a disability. Interesting view into how other cultures approach deafness.

Deaf Poetry - 0 views

If you like poems you should read my site which has really interesting poems written by the deaf. Here is something from the site that introduces the poems: "Listen carefully and you will hear the heart beat of the Deaf. You will gain access to their world and their understanding and culture. You are privileged to be allowed to glimpse inside their world. Handle it gently. Allow yourself to feel what they feel, to experience what they have experienced. Allow it to impact your heart and then to bond you with this world. If you do, you will be forever changed..."

I had a hard time finding true deaf ecards. I was hoping to see animated deaf ecards that actually had a character signing. This is the best site I could find. All of the cards are static and there is nothing on the inside.I think Hallmark has not realized that most deaf ppl can't read.

Philosophy's real-world consequences for being deaf - 0 views

  •
This is a bit dense in vocabulary since it's a philosophical piece, but it's very informative about the ways philosophy has suppressed the deaf by having inaccurate assumptions of what the deaf experience is like. The author aims to dispel those assumptions. Requires some mental yoga.

This is a site about Mexican Sports Organizations for the Deaf. It is a site where the Deaf of Mexico can easily find resources for schools and sports/sporting events, as well as communicate to one another about these things. The site is in Spanish, but I know with Google Chrome there is the option to translate it into English.
