Dealing with student blogs at the end of the school year! | The Edublogger - 1 views

  • I want my students to be able to look back on the work they completed several or many years ago. Students are proud of their blogs and as such the blogs should be allowed to stay.
    • Haley J

I agree with this statement. Now that I am about to start teaching I wish I would have saved more of my work that I did in school. In the past year I have been saving my work and I am very proud of the assignments that I have finished and done well on. I want to be able to look back at it and remember what was going on in my head at that time and what thoughts and concerns I had while doing that assignment. By saving and looking back on your blogs students will be able to do all of these things!
  • I have encouraged my students to use their blogs as eportfolios. Just like journals and diaries,
    • Bretni Brooks

I agree, blogging is a more comfortable way to share opinions, comments, and thoughts. We often second guess ourselves when having to speak aloud. Also having it on paper makes it accessable and convinent to look back on past thoughts, and specifically for me, I can look back on blogs for ideas in the classroom.
  • Encourage them to start their own blog and delete the blog they were using for school.
    • Katie McElroy

I think encouraging students to start their blog is a great idea. It will help them to continue to share ideas and interact with others.

  • But, what I really love, is that I am able to use the old comments to teach my new students *how* to comment. Already, many of my third graders are commenting on our blog and what they are writing is very good!
    • Shannon Roland

I like this idea because 3rd graders are still concrete learners and they would probably benefit from seeing previous comments and how they are set up in order to understand how to correctly comment on a blog.
    • Justin Villanueva

It is good to keep old blogs from previous years. It gives students a better sense of what to do and give them more ideas about what to blog about.

Tips On Blogging With Students | The Edublogger - 0 views

  • I have found edublogs so user friendly for my students and my parents. I use virtual participation for my incredibly shy students or for students that just want to extend the conversation. I was very surprised how many students blogged for the sake of wanting to participate in an intelligent conversation.
    • Taylor Ward

I really like the idea of virtual participation, not just for the students, but for the parents also. In the virtual age we live in, how great would it be for a parent to be able to log onto the class blog to keep up with news!
    • Shannon Roland

I believe that blogs would be a good resource to use for students who are shy. It allows them to speak publicly about their opinions, but not everyone will know who they are if they don't use their real name, which should minimize their hesitation to speak their mind.
    • Cassandra Bautista

This is a great idea for students who are nervous or shy to participate. I know a lot of students often will not share with the teacher or peers because they are shy or nervous to get the wrong answer. Here the teacher is able to evaulate the students understanding of the curriculm and students can share with their peers without feeling the pressure.
  • The feedback I have been getting from my students about our classroom blog has been excellent. Students enjoy making comments on the blog and some of the parents of these 17-18 year old students enjoy reading them. These students who need extra support and are often reluctant to put pen to paper are quite willing to post comments on the blog. Their fingers just fly over the keys. It’s amazing. They also like the fact that I put some security on the blog- first names only, no search engine access and moderated comments.
    • Haley J

I've started to notice even in college that student's love to use the computer to put in their feedback to something. I think students love to type rather then pulling out a pencil and writing it down on paper. This is great for students because it allows them to do something different from the regular classroom. It allows them to use technology instead of the old fashion way of doing things! I love the fact that the this teacher has put some security on the blog because along with the students, teachers, and parents, we want everyone to feel safe when blogging.

  • Two students have asked me not to publish a specific comment they have written and that’s not a problem. The students wanted to write the comments, but did not want them published. That’s not a problem at all.
    • Bretni Brooks

After reading all the information on blogging, I never thought of those students that would be shy to post their opinions. I think that it is great that blogs can be posted as private where only the instructor can see it. It's convenient that we have the option to blog at our own individual comfort level.
  • The students like the fact that the two classes share one blog and that they can read and comment on what their friends have written. Several parents of these 17/18 year old students have told me they like the blog as well. They follow it too.
    • Katie McElroy

This makes learning more fun for students when they get to interact with their friends. I think this is a great idea that both classes get to interact with each other. The students will want to share more when they are getting to share with their peers.
  • I work with student that are on Out Of School Suspension. Most of my student are out of school for a some of 45 days. My goal is to set up a better communication with the students and their teachers and their class peers. There are some teachers that are blogging with their class at our school. I really think that is great. These student are able to go to their teachers blog site and get their assignments and they can respond to the work that is posted and publish their own work and the teacher can respond to them.

Its amazing How we can use blogging to benifit our students.I like how this can help problemed student keep up with their homework and stay connected to their teacher.
  • My students blog in by initials, seat number, and period number.

I really like they way the childs identiy is kept a secret. For the safety of children, there would be no way for a cybercriminal to get a hold of any personal information.

It needs to be a site that catches people's attention. Otherwise, people won't think it's a legit site.

I chose this citation machine because it is fast and easy. I gives APA, MLA, and Chicago formats. I beleive both high school and college students would enjoy this site. It has all the other options of citing for example a newpaper, movie, or magazine on the left hand side, where you choose what you need. This cite makes it very easy and self-explainatory to use.

I believe Citation Wizard is a great first step for children that are just learning to cite their work, but it is limited to only MLA. This is the only drawback I found with it. I believe this site could be improved by adding more citation options (i.e. APA, and etc.) and by adding explanations of why certain resources are cited certain ways. This would enhance the learning experience greatly while using this site.

I thought this citation was helpful but at the same time, kind of hard to tell if the site was legit. It was simple to figuring out how to cite different material but you needed to make sure you didn't make any mistakes. If there was a mistake or if something wasn't capitalized then it would show up like that. There were no red lines notifying you of a mistake. Although, it wasn't the best citation site it would still help a lot of people put the correct citation on their paper. The only problem is getting people to stay on the site. Most people probably wouldn't take it seriously and would try looking for another site.

This is a great citation generator. It gave me exactly what I needed. I would recommend this to people of 15 years and older. This website helps students understand what teachers are wanting when citing any kind of documents. The citation center is also very easy to use and I feel that just about anyone can figure out how to use this site in a matter of seconds. It gives you step by step to follow then conputes exactly what you need. This is a great citation generator to use!

I really enjoyed reviewing this site. It is really helpful, and it gives plenty of information for you to know how to make a citation. This site gives you step by step intructions while doing your citation; which I think will be really helpful for the students to use.

I thought this citation generator was very helpful. The interface was easy to navigate and it took no time at all to generate a citation. The site has every type of publication that a student would need to create a citation. To me, the drawback was that you can not copy and paste using Firefox which is the browser I primarily use. But other than that I would recommend this citation generator to my fellow students.
