UI Faculty Council to discuss new technology - The Daily Iowan - 0 views

  • Unizin, an online database that allows universities to share information and resources.
  • Unizin is university-owned, meaning its values are concerned with the academic aspect of learning rather than the monetary and company aspect of educational software. Instead of allowing companies to enforce their programs and push their technology for their benefit, Unizin works to be sure the software benefits the students. Other universities — including the University of Illinois-Urbana/Champagne — are considering implementing Unizin.
  • Unizin works to enforce better education by having software that allows instructors to understand their students and learn how to teach them in the most effective way. Unizin also makes educational technology more efficient for both instructors and students by allowing professors to share technology more fluidly
  •
University of Iowa might move to Unizin, a data management and learning software that allows professors to share technology more fluidly. Unizin is also university owned and recreates the idea of educational software by skipping the large corporations

Free ebooks - Project Gutenberg - 2 views

  •
Project Gutenburg is one of the oldest communities for the spread of the written word on the internet. For its inception, PG has been in the process of digitizing literature in the public domain and continues to update its library of over 45,000 free ebooks daily. This is an amazing resource for the majority of ELA courses, distance learning, and online classroom management systems. It has been truly invaluable in British Literature because almost the entire curriculum has been converted to digital form. It is also amazing for distance learning like Plato and Odysseyware that do not always provide the text with the learning software. If you would like these books in audio form, check out Librivox.

4 Free Photos - Public domain images and free photos. - 0 views

4 Free Photos are a collection of photographs that are made available for free download by the group of photographers that manage the site. These photos are available for private or commercial projects. The photos are divided into alphabetized categories, and a search bar allows users to search for a specific image. These photos would work well in any classroom setting. They would work especially well for students in a graphic design course or photography course who are learning to manipulate photographs using editing software.Students could practice editing photos that they would not have means of taking, perhaps because of limited resources or their location.
