For the past few weeks there have been student protests calling for 1)a new constitution with less power and 2) resignation of the prime minister who lead the 2014 military coup, and 3) end to persecution of the political opposition. There is talk of a new military coup to bring back stability and protect the monarchy (ending the rallies and protests). The Thai military holds a lot of power in the democracy, it has 1) "attitude adjustment" centers for protesters and 2) appoints all the 250 members of the senate.
Between May and September, over 1000 Chinese students have been denied US Visas to study in the US (at a far larger rate than other countries). Chinese international students also play an important role in US economy, being 1/3 of total international students, making up $14.9 billion.
Before the pandemic, Amazon's biggest buyers were from the US, Japan, Germany, and Britain. However, now countries, like Italy and Brazil, who had been previously reluctant to shop online rather than continue the tradition of buying from local stores, have become used to shopping online.
South Africa is experience a similar police brutality as the US. However their's comes from a much different history, hence "coloured lives". South African citizens remember police from the apartheid, who then followed white leadership and used force to assassinate leaders, start violence, and enforce the rules. That is tearing the police-citizen relationship apart. They recently murdered 16 year old Nathaniel Julies when he was caught in between fire, sparking outrage and protest.
After ending the war with FARC, a rebel group, with a peace deal 4 years ago, FARC pulled out of the countryside, however new rebel groups moved in and are fighting for control of territories. Rebel groups reportedly use killing innocent people to show power. There have already been 33 massacres in Columbia this year.
Many HIV patients who have had a bone marrow transplant have been immune to HIV, however the procedure is risky. There a special group of people called Elite Controllers whose immune systems can hunt down cells with HIV. Loreen Willenberg is an Elite Controller whose showed no signs of HIV since she was diagnosed 15 years ago.
