Anti-LGBTQ+ Discrimination Increases Amid Nationwide Attacks on Trans Americans | them. - 0 views

  •
Especially in the bay area, it's easy to feel like large progress is being made, but this article shows that that's not really the case throughout the country, especially with states like Texas passing anti-trans sports bills. I'm not really sure what the solution is to create national change, but it is clear that we need one.
  •
I wonder if this rise in discrimination is caused by people who are anti-LGBTQ+ getting a chance to express their opinions more or a rise in the number of people who are anti-LGBTQ+. The article seems to suggest the first hypothesis, because the public appears to accept the LGBTQ+ community more, but I think we need further investigations.

Thousands march in Ukraine for LGBT rights, safety - 0 views

  •
In Ukraine, thousands joined together to in the March for Equality to support the rights of the country's LGBT community. Ukraine has made some efforts in progress for LGBTQ rights, but many conservative groups have worked towards backpedaling their progress. Interesting to see the difference in equality in other countries, especially with Head-Royce celebrating bi-awareness week.

I did not know much, if anything, about LGBTQ rights in Ukraine, and I hope that these nonviolent protests result in positive change for the LGBTQ community there.

I personally don't know very much about the queer community and LGBTQ+ rights in Ukraine, but I hope these protests help make the situation there better. While I hope for swift and immediate change, it seems like these protests might be met with inaction for a while. It's also possible that there's backlash from conservatives in the country. I think that the path to queer rights in Ukraine will, unfortunately, be a long and hard road. That said, I'm glad to see that people are willing to speak up and fight for rights in a country like Ukraine.

Yes to all of the comments, and this observation: social change is often not linear, though it may appear so at first.

This is a pretty clear indicator of the economic bias against the queer community in the U.S.

I don't know that much about LGBTQ+ rights or the queer community there. I'd be interested to see what it's like and how this fits into the movement for more LGBTQ+ rights in China.

    This is news!

Congrats to them ! And I would also be interested in learning about the queer community in China.

Pope Francis Won't Budge on Gay Marriage: "Marriage Is Marriage" | them. - 0 views

  •
While Pope Francis is one of the most progressive popes in recent history, especially when it comes to LGBTQ+ issues. However, the Catholic Church (unsurprisingly) still has rather conservative views on queer people and the community in general, especially people who aren't cisgender. I'd be interested to see (though I doubt this information will be public anytime soon) how much of this comes from Pope Francis' own beliefs as opposed to the pressure applied by the rest of the church.

The Government Says Trans Kids Have Restroom Rights. Schools Are Restricting Them Anywa... - 0 views

  •
It seems like the main issue with trans restroom rights is enforcement: "Although the Supreme Court declined in July to consider a challenge to Grimm's victory in a lower federal court, SCOTUS did not set a federal precedent for similar school restroom cases, essentially leaving it up to each presidential administration to enforce Title IX in educational settings."
