The situation is so dire, a Kurdish Yazidi member of the Iraqi Parliament took to the floor to demand the Parliament intervene to stop what she referred to as “genocide.”
On Sunday, Kurdish forces were able to rescue some 20,000 Yazidi Iraqis who had been trapped on Mount Sinjar, but many thousands remain trapped as the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) makes its brutal advance north.
On Saturday, President Obama said air strikes would help achieve some stability in Iraq, but added, “Ultimately there’s not going to be an American military solution to this problem.”
