Iran recalls ambassador from Bahrain in protest - CBS News - 0 views

  • Bahrain's Sunni monarchy detained at least seven prominent opposition activists Thursday, and Iran recalled its ambassador to protest the Gulf troops backing the government against the Shiite protests that forced martial law-style rule in the island nation.Bahrain's government is gambling that it can survive the sectarian faultlines that splinter the region, with Sunni leaders in the Gulf sending forces to bolster a regime that they — and the U.S. — see as a bulwark against Shiite Iran's expanding military ambitions. The Sunni monarchy and its backers are using everything at their disposal to retain power, while Shiites hope their overwhelming population advantage will be their most potent weapon to bring the leadership to its knees. Clashes broke out in a village on the outskirts of the capital Manama.

Summary: The protests are still going however, NATO and the European Union are working to stop the violence and eventually hopefully the protesters will get there way. Bahrain has offered a three month emergency rule which gives the government power to stop the protesting anyway they can in a pro-democracy way. Most people want the protesters to win however, first and for most they want the violence to stop most of all.

Thousands Join Bahrain Protests; King to Free Some Political Prisoners - 0 views

  • Marchers chanting "the people want the downfall of the regime" flooded the major thoroughfare leading into Pearl Square today in the biggest protest Bahrain has seen since anti-government demonstrations began 10 days ago.
  •
Summary: Over ten thousand people walked into the capital of Bahrain from the mall where they gathered. They represented and held flags of the seven people killed due to their protests earlier. They were trying to show the government what they are doing to these innocent people. If the government sees what they are doing to the people they should be like normal humans and be more likely to give in to the protests. This was the largest protest so far for them.

Aside from the prisoner release - no details of which have yet been given - they want the government to resign, the deaths of protesters to be investigated, and political reforms that will lead to a constitutional monarchy. Some protesters have also called on King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifah to step down.
  •
Summary: This article shows both the perspectives of the people and the government. The people want to have a democracy based government where the people rule. The government is just trying to stop the protesting because they do not want the people to decide anything. The people are joining together asking the king to step down. So far there is no sign as to whether or not that request will be given to the people however, he is running out of any other ideas that he has to fix this problem. There was also 7 more people killed in this past week that were innocent non violent protesters.
