    Because it is the language of the native APIs, Visual C++ has a special status on Windows which makes it  the best language for interacting with the platform APIs -- whether those are pure C++ APIs or COM components. This is partly due to the fact that unlike other .NET languages, Visual C++ allows managed and unmanaged code to exist in the same application and even in the same file ... allowing integration with existing apps and platform APIs that is just not possible in other .NET languages.

SecureStrings are held in encrypted memory by the CLR (using DPAPI), and are only unencrypted when they are accessed.&nbsp; This limits the amount of time that your string is in plaintext for an attacker to see.&nbsp; Since SecureString uses DPAPI to help secure your data, it's not available on Windows 98, ME, or Windows 2000 with anything less than service pack 3.

    The SecureString class provides a string type that is stored encrypted in memory when not in use and will not be copied around by the Garbage Collector, plus they can be zeroed out on destruction, and locked to read-only mode... Which makes this perfect for storing things like passwords in memory.

      I was hoping to provide a list of my blog posts from RSS feeds, as well as links to all of the articles that I have commented on with my friends' blogs. I could list all of my friends' blogs and scrape them periodically, but I was hoping for a solution that uses trackbacks, or whatever pingback-style facilities are available on my friends' blogs. Granted this type of support will vary from site to site, but it should be possible to build a complete publishing record automatically, with the standards we have available today. I posted a comment on otierney.net (my friend Tristan is up on all the latest web standards) and I noticed that his blogger is collecting URLs along with emails. I filled in the link to my Radiant CMS on nerdland.org but I'm afraid my blogger is not going to do anything to collect these pingbacks, when they are fired. Can anyone point out an example code segment or project that highlights this type of behavior?
