How To Improve And Refine Your WordPress Theme Development Process - 0 views

  •
There is so much to learn about WordPress theme development. The Internet is home to hundreds of articles about building WordPress themes, to countless theme frameworks that will help you get started, and to endless WordPress themes, some of which are beautiful and professional but not a few of which are (to be honest) a bit crappy.

All You Need To Know About CSS3 Selectors, #1: Structural Pseudo-Classes - 0 views

  •
Today's front-end developers don't just need to understand how to write CSS, we need to know how to write it efficiently. And what "efficiently" means can depend on your project and environment. Perhaps you have a team with several members working in the CSS and you need an efficient way to work together. Or maybe you have a huge enterprise site and you need your CSS optimized for speed. You could even be working with a legacy system that restricts access to HTML, which means you need efficient selectors to effectively style elements without ids or classes. You might even face all these situations and more.

Useful and Stylish Code Editors - 0 views

  •
A perfect code editor is the only thing a developer needs for joy. When it comes to code editors, developers mainly care about usability and functionality of the tool they're working with, but the era of plain, old, ugly code editors is gone.

SKETCH DEVICE WIREFRAMES - 0 views

  •
I've been using Sketch properly for about a month now and I have to say that I'm really impressed as are a lot of others now using it in the design community. I first found out about it after reading a blog post by Meng To on How To Design Pixel Perfect Assets in which Meng refers to Sketch a few times and explains that it's great while designing for mobile as you can export in 2x even after designing in standard dimensions. Sketch has had a lot of attention lately so here's a few blog posts and freebies that you may have missed: Simple Vector iPhone Sketch Freebie Browser Wireframe iPhone iOS 6 Template for Sketch

Become a Better, Faster Front-End Developer - 0 views

  •
So you're a pretty great web developer already. You've got some killer CSS chops (cross browser even), perhaps you've been a Photoshop expert for years, and you've got enough jQuery knowledge to make almost any chained animation go smoothly. But certainly you ask yourself, what's next? In fact, one of the most asked questions about web development is, "how do I stay on the leading edge?" Chris Coyier recently presented a fantastic talk on the subject, and there are sites fully dedicated to staying up to date on the latest web design news. Addy Osmani's roundup on becoming a better front-end engineer sets some great content out on the board for you to consider on the subject; needless to say, a lot of smart people are thinking about this very subject, so you're headed in the right direction.

Principles of Design and David Kadavy's Design for Hackers, Interview - 0 views

  •
E-books about principles of design, and specifically about web design, are getting more and more popular. Years ago these kind of information can only be found on universities, but now they're everywhere and people are taking them in like hungry lions. If you don't know this, well, seriously, what rock have you been living under last year? Sacha Greif wrote "Step by Step UI design" Jarrod Drysdale wrote "Bootsrapping Design" Nathan Barry wrote three e-books, "App Design Handbook", "Designing Web Applications" and "Authority".

How to Combine Typefaces - 0 views

  •
I recently finished reading Tim Brown's new book "Combining Typefaces." It's 63 pages. You can buy it for less than $5 on FiveSimpleSteps, as a pdf or epub. Combining Typefaces is a dense book. It goes through a lot of concepts very quickly, but I'm a fan of that. The book may be primarily about combining types, but I think it serves as a great introduction to typography as a whole. It goes over anatomy and general terminology, but the book primarily approaches typography as a form of artistic communication, instead of just a set of guidelines and formulas. This is important, because that means it accepts subjectivity. There is no one answer to type, no winning approach; all we have are the techniques and patterns observed and used by of artists and designers throughout centuries. It challenges you to think about typography in your own way: how will you create what you want to communicate? What will you use? How will you use it?

How to Remotely Debug your Mobile App - 0 views

  •
Analyzing and monitoring your App, once it has been published in the AppStore, is an important task to make your App a success. If something is crashing in your App on a remote device, there should be a communication mechanism to notify the developer about the crashing event. Also, developer should be able to see the detail error logs of that device.

Ten Things I Hate About Object-Oriented Programming - The JOT Blog - 13 views

  • we spend much of our time bouncing back and forth between … lots of little methods. This is sometimes known as the Lost in Space syndrome. It has been reported since the early days of OOP. To quote Adele Goldberg, “In Smalltalk, everything happens somewhere else.”

My first and continuing experience in Smalltalk (and Ruby and everywhere else.) Interesting to here 2 experts say the same thing!
  • I believe that to make further progress we must focus on change and how OOP can facilitate change. After all these years, we are still in the early days of OOP and understanding what it has to offer us.
