How to Combine Typefaces - 0 views

  •
I recently finished reading Tim Brown's new book "Combining Typefaces." It's 63 pages. You can buy it for less than $5 on FiveSimpleSteps, as a pdf or epub. Combining Typefaces is a dense book. It goes through a lot of concepts very quickly, but I'm a fan of that. The book may be primarily about combining types, but I think it serves as a great introduction to typography as a whole. It goes over anatomy and general terminology, but the book primarily approaches typography as a form of artistic communication, instead of just a set of guidelines and formulas. This is important, because that means it accepts subjectivity. There is no one answer to type, no winning approach; all we have are the techniques and patterns observed and used by of artists and designers throughout centuries. It challenges you to think about typography in your own way: how will you create what you want to communicate? What will you use? How will you use it?

The quality of the blur has come to be known as "bokeh". Bokeh in terms of photography referring the area in the photo which are out of focus light to increase beautiful and dramatic image. The origin of the term is from the Japanese word "romaji" (english characters) is spelled "boke" (pronounced bo-keh) and which means "fuzzy". As you've already seen in our previous posts about Single Page Website Designs that showcasing your work in single page design is a hot trend. Even though this is not a common trend to follow but still as the new design styles come up, and as more and more designers notice them and make use of them in their work, this kind of trends emerge.

Information Overload: A Great Infographic Is Worth a Thousand Words - 0 views

  •
The web is crammed full of words. There is enough content to keep you reading until you take your last breath, even if that moment is still 100 years from now. So far for the good news ;-) The bad news is, the web grows faster than you could ever possibly keep up with. Sooner or later, any netizen will suffer from information overload. I know I do already. This will become a growing problem for brands and their communication strategies as they will need to cut their messages short or risk to not get noticed. If you ask me, one of the best ways to deal with this necessity is the infographic…

This is great, I promise. We know Finland for a lot of things, rubber boots for instance or - ehm - Helsinki. Angelos Arnis and Tomi Hiltunen want to add to this ample variety. They just published a set of device mockups, all in PNG and CSS, that you can actually bring to life with real content. You've got a web app for mobile clients you want to show on your website? Not very impressive, unless you present it inside the frames of its mobile boundaries. That's what Arnis and Hiltunen have built…

How to Remotely Debug your Mobile App - 0 views

  •
Analyzing and monitoring your App, once it has been published in the AppStore, is an important task to make your App a success. If something is crashing in your App on a remote device, there should be a communication mechanism to notify the developer about the crashing event. Also, developer should be able to see the detail error logs of that device.

The Archive of Interesting Code - 0 views

  •
The Archive of Interesting Code is an (ambitious) effort on my part to research, intuit, and code up every interesting algorithm and data structure ever invented. In doing so, I hope both to learn the mathematical techniques that power these technologies and to improve my skills as a programmer. The examples on this site are in a variety of languages. I generally prefer to use C++ for algorithms, since the STL provides a great framework for expressing algorithms that work on a variety of data types. I code up most data structures in Java, both because the Collections framework allows them to be integrated in seamlessly with other applications and because automatic garbage collection simplifies some of the resource management. Every now and then I'll find an algorithm or data structure that is best represented in a different language like Haskell, in which case I'll forgo my usual language conventions.
