    Microsoft a lancé officiellement la technologie Smooth Streaming qui est un feature pack complémentaire pour Windows Server et IIS Media Pack, permettant le streaming vidéo en vraie Haute Définition en 1080p. Cette technologie de streaming adaptatif - via un encodage des flux vidéos live en multi-bitrate - offre des fonctionnalités de type PVR avec la Pause et le Seek, y compris sur les flux vidéo "live", le support natif du format H.264, l'accélération GPU qui accélère le décodage vidéo et permet ainsi de "monter" en 1080p en améliorant le rendu en full screen.
