  • I only wish there were a Lip-Gloss-of-the-Day Club that delivered a new flavor of gloss to my front door every morning. But until then, just imagine you're getting it.

  • I try to accept myself for who I am.

  • Any advice for wannabe writers? Write every day. It doesn't have to be good or interesting or grammatically correct. Just write anyway. It will keep your juices flowing, and I guarantee that by the end of each session you will have at least one good sentence that you can use in the future. Read a lot. And read the stuff you like, not the stuff you think you should like. Because chances are you will write in the genre you like to read. So it's important to know how other people are doing it. Carry a little notebook everywhere you go. If you see something funny, write it down. If you meet someone with a cool name, write it down. If you think of an interesting story idea while you're on the bus, write it down. Get it? So the next time you're racking your brain for details or ideas they will be right there in your ah-dorable little notebook. If someone tells you you'll never be a writer, put on your pointiest boots, take a deep breath, and kick them in the shin. Write about that!
  • I think unique is chic
  • I stink at sports
  • I WAS in the seventh grade at one point in my life and I remember what it feels like to wake up in the morning and wonder if my friends will still like me, even though I did nothing wrong.
  • remember what it feels like to gang up on someone else because, well, better them than me, right?
  • I go through food obsession phases. This week I can't get enough of those little egg rolls filled with pizza.

Interview with Lisi Harrison | Book Divas - 0 views

  • I do alot of staring at the wall whe trying to come up with Clique lingo.
  • I am on such a mission to keep moving forward that it was nice to take a look back and laugh at the crazy world I created and remember all the good times.
  • do you crack yourself up when you are writing? I really do! I used to share an office with a guy who assumed I was on the phone all day because I'd be laughing so hard!
  • ...5 more annotations...
  • How did your experience as a writer and producer MTV inform your writing? I learned what appeals to teens. I learned how to hold someone's attention. I learned that everyone wants to fit in and be accepted, no matter how old they are.
  • The characters aren't based on any one person.
  • Popcorn dipped in Gulden's Spicy Brown Mustard is ah-mazing. Trust me...
  • I try to start the day with yoga, but that doesn't always happen. Then I get some tea and roll into my office at 10:00am. I check my email, then decide I better get to work so I turn on some music and get cranking. At around 11am I think about lunch (usually sushi). Then I write until 2pm and start thinking about snacks. Then I write more. At 5:30 I head home and think about dinner. Sensing a pattern here?
  • Finally, in your opinion, what does it mean to be a Book Diva?It means clapping your hands twice and shouting, "Somebody fetch me some tea!" Then realizing I'm alone in a small office and getting it myself.

Lisi Harrison answers your questions! | The Daily Fig - 0 views

    • Katie Gatliff

On a website lisi answered questions and these are some of her thoughts
  • I know how painful being bullied can be and I wanted to show (using Massie and friends) that the so-called “perfect girls” are just as messed up as the rest of us. Sometimes even more.
  • My monster outlines keep me from rushing and getting lazy with details.  This is key because details bring the story to life.
  • ...4 more annotations...
  • I spend about two weeks figuring out my story on index cards, napkins, and notebooks.
  • It’s hard to give a blanket answer to that because each story has its own pace. In general though I try to always keep things moving and entertaining. But I always slow things down a bit to check in emotionally. It’s important to let the reader know how the action is affecting the characters and how they are processing it.
  • I have signed contracts with deadlines in them. If I don’t hand in my books on time I’ll be in big trouble. And still I procrastinate. The best way to avoid it is to set daily goals for yourself. Don’t stop until you reach them.
  • You never want readers to hate your main character. It’s like asking you to be best friends with someone you can’t stand.

Anne's clique updates: Lisi Harrison's biography - 0 views

  • I went to Hebrew school until ninth grade and then switched to Forest Hill Collegiate, a public high school.
  • , was forbidden to wear anything made by anyone other than K-Mart or Hanes
  • When I was eighteen I moved to Montreal to become a film major at McGill University. Canadians like to think of it as the Harvard of Canada, but Americans always laugh and call me an "intellectual wannabe" when I say that.
  • ...11 more annotations...
  • I left McGill after two years because I knew deep down inside I wanted to be a writer, not a filmmaker and McGill had a lame creative writing program.
  • I ended up staying at MTV for 12 great years.
  • I was with a BFA, ten dollars in my Le Sportsac and no plan
  • my friend Lawrence was working at MTV in New York and felt sorry for me. He offered me a casting job on a game show called Lip Service. All I had to do was move to Manhattan-- the next day.
  • transferred to Emerson College in Boston where I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in creative writing. YAY!
  • had every brutal job there was and eventually worked my way up to Head Writer and then, Senior Director of Development.
  • It was my job to create and develop new shows for the network including, "One Bad Trip" and "Room Raiders." And believe it or not, it was MTV, not middle school that inspired me to write The Clique.
  • There were so many employees at MTV who would do and wear anything just to be accepted by the so-called "cool people." It reminded me so much of life in the seventh grade I had to write about it.
  • I wrote The Clique and Best Friends for Never while I was still at MTV just in case my life as an author didn’t work out. And in June 2004 I decided to take the plunge, quit my job, and write full time.
  • In January 2007 I left the harsh winters of New York City and my best friends (sooo sad) behind in search of the perfect beach town. And I found it in Laguna Beach, CA. (No, it had nothing to do with the MTV show even though I have seen every episode.)
  • I never have time to go to the beach. But I can see it.
