The Rutherford Institute :: Stop Playing the Government's Mind Games | By John W. White... - 0 views

  • This plague on our nation—one that has been spreading like wildfire—is a potent mix of fear coupled with unhealthy doses of paranoia and intolerance, tragic hallmarks of the post-9/11 America in which we live and the constantly shifting crises that keep the populace in a state of high alert. Everywhere you turn, those on both the left- and right-wing are fomenting distrust and division. You can’t escape it. We’re being fed a constant diet of fear: fear of a virus, fear of the unmasked, fear of terrorists, fear of illegal immigrants, fear of people who are too religious, fear of people who are not religious enough, fear of extremists, fear of the government, fear of those who fear the government. The list goes on and on. The strategy is simple yet effective: the best way to control a populace is through fear and discord. Fear makes people stupid. Confound them, distract them with mindless news chatter and entertainment, pit them against one another by turning minor disagreements into major skirmishes, and tie them up in knots over matters lacking in national significance. Most importantly, divide the people into factions, persuade them to see each other as the enemy and keep them screaming at each other so that they drown out all other sounds. In this way, they will never reach consensus about anything and will be too distracted to notice the police state closing in on them until the final crushing curtain falls. This is how free people enslave themselves and allow tyrants to prevail.

  • The government assumes it is not restrained in its power.

  • Fear, as history shows, is the method most often used by politicians to increase the power of government. So far, these tactics are working.

Reading the Bible Chronologically - 0 views

  •
The following is a reading plan that I developed for some newer disciples / followers of Jesus to help them get a good picture of what is going on in Scripture from Genesis 1 to Revelation 22. Our English Bibles do not follow a clear chronological order (particularly in the Old Testament), so many people who read the Bible straight through aren't able to, say, summarize the Biblical narrative as a whole. This is a bit of a problem as I believe that a developing healthy understanding of the Bible's story (and my/your place in it) is an essential component of discipleship.

A Couple Crucial Characteristics of the Christian Church « Reflections in the... - 0 views

  •
The core of the church is faith in God (exemplified by works), and brotherly love demonstrated by unity (not uniformity); that is what God is looking for. So let's not get distracted by things that are of lesser importance.

…and They'll Know We are Christians by Our Love « Reflections in the WORD - 0 views

  •
It is the love we share (by our actions, not just words!) that makes people believe we are sincere. It is how much we sacrifice for each other that opens the door for the gospel message. It is by bearing each other's burdens that we fulfill the Law of Christ.

Theistic Evolution, the Image of God and Original Sin - 0 views

  •
It is here, I think, that Biblical theology comes most in conflict with macro-evolutionary ideas. There is such a concept as "Theistic Evolution" which essentially claims that there is no necessary contradiction between Biblical theology and Darwinian-type evolution.

Instead of asking, "Where is the emerging church headed?" a better question is "Where am I taking the emerging church?" I want to highlight four people whose responses resonate with me.

Our Father's Perfect Plans « Reflections in the WORD - 0 views

  •
From the beginning of time God has wanted the heart of mankind. He wants us to call on Him and come to Him in prayer, to seek His will, and trust Him in all things. When we do, He is always available to us, longing for all to look to Him and live. His arms are always open to any who will turn to Him. He is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
