Knowing how and when to raise your eyebrows to elicit the kind of response you're after from a student or how to move around the classroom and/or moderate your voice to ensure that students are engaged and 'with you' are just some of the skills that should be second nature to teachers in our classrooms.  But are they?

There are two separate conversations about what should happen in education at the moment, and both are doomed unless we connect them as soon as possible.

YouTube has become a great source of both research and entertainment. Many of you might already know how to do this. Some of you may know that you can "favorite" videos that you like on YouTube, creating a playlist entitled "Favorites". However, your favorites will end up a large list of videos (mine currently has 164!), likely being too large to manage Solution? Creating personalized playlists is a way to efficiently organize all your videos.

device, I'm concerned that most one-to-one implementation strategies are based on the new tool as the focus of the program. Unless we break out of this limited vision that one-to-one computing is about the device, we are doomed to waste our resources.

Part of rethinking learning means rethinking the -which is what makes the following chart we spotted over at connectedprincipals compelling. Rather than simply a list of alternatives to homework, it instead contextualizes the need for work at home (or, "homework"). It does this by taking typical classroom situations-the introduction of new material, demonstrating a procedure, etc.), and offering alternatives to traditional homework assignments. In fact, most of them are alternatives to homework altogether, including group brainstorming, modeling/think-alouds, or even the iconic pop-quiz.

The final round of government funding is currently being distributed to schools all around Australia. I was recently at Our Lady of the Angels Rouse Hill doing a workshop with them in creating iBooks using iBooks Author.  The Principal Eva La Rocco and the teachers saw the main benefit for the software as a way of students demonstrating their own understanding and knowledge by creating  an iBook that incorporated all their work.  The focus being for the students to create content rather than it being pushed to them via a teacher created iBook textbook.
