As teachers, our plates are perpetually and impossibly full. The idea of adding one more component - such as incorporating technology into instruction - can seem daunting to say the least. In my own attempts to incorporate technology into my practice, Google has been the most valuable tool I have found thus far. Not only does it increase my ability to organize my instructional tools, but it also allows me to incorporate more technology when I feel ready to do so.

While there have been many other advantages, the biggest advantage of using Google Forms in my classroom is being able to give students immediate feedback.

Investigative reporter Julia Angwin was curious what Google knew about her, so she asked the company for her search data. "It turns out I had been doing about 26,000 Google searches a month ... and I was amazed at how revealing they were," she tells Fresh Air's Dave Davies.

This search engine in Google allows you to find things suitable for K-12 students, but that's as refined as it gets.  

A special talk by Dr. Daniel Russell, research scientist at Google took place at the School of Information and Library Science (SILS) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in room 01 of Manning Hall on March 5, 2014. The title of the presentation was, "Mindtools: What does it Mean to be Literate in the Age of Google?"

Twisted Wave is an online service (iPad app also available) for creating and editing audio tracks. One of the best features of Twisted Wave is that you can save your recordings directly to your Google Drive account.

"Picture this: A student is at home, listening to my biology podcast and a question comes to mind, that she thinks would be of benefit to the community of fellow listeners. She wants to contribute to the podcast by asking her question in her own voice (like talk-back radio) and hear the question discussed on next week's episode. I have investigated and tried quite a number of options. Some of the best include K7, Skype Voicemail, Google Voice and iPadio and CinchCast. But none of these were ideal for the purpose. Some are expensive for students. Some are expensive for me. Some don't work in Australia (yes - I'm looking at you, Google Voice). Some are cumbersome for my purpose, and let's face it, if it takes much any effort, students won't use it). Enter SpeakPipe. A new service that is just what I've been looking for."

Flubaroo enables you to quickly grade all of your students responses to quizzes that you deliver through Google Forms. The newest features allow you to share graded quizzes to students through Google Drive in addition to the email option that has existed for a long time. Through Flubaroo you can send students a copy of their responses, a copy of the grading key, and their individual grades. To be clear, a student will only see his or her grade and quiz responses.
