The permanent game collection is a collection of demos, prototypes, and polished games culled from a diverse group of international designers, educators, and students tackling a range of values-conscious design challenges.

The Wisconsin Online Resource Center is a digital library of Web-based learning resources called "learning objects." The digital library of objects has been developed primarily by faculty from the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) and produced by multimedia technicians who create the learning objects for the online environment. At present, 409 WTCS faculty members have authored learning objects. The Wisc-Online digital library contains 2542 objects that are accessible to all WTCS faculty at no cost and with copyright clearance for use in any WTCS classroom or online application. Other colleges, universities, and consortia from throughout the United States and around the world use the library with permission. Current use of the learning object repository exceeds 20,000 hits per day. Learning objects are designed and developed by a team of instructional designers, editors, technicians, and student interns.

To help you get started with this process with your students, I have designed a series of evaluation surveys, one each at the elementary, middle, and secondary school levels. The elementary, middle, and secondary surveys have been re-designed and updated in February of 2009. The virtual tour, blog, podcast, and teacher site evaluations have been added since 2005 and updated in 2009."

"Abstract: This paper reports on the design, development, and application of a Checklist intended to assist educators in recognizing strengths and weaknesses in their technology-based programs at their institutions. The Checklist sampled public and private schools to validate the existence and impact of the Technology Facade. Initial findings indicate that schools have masked the effective use of computers labs and classroom computers behind the auspices of teacher activities, student participation, and parental involvement. The study and suggests possible courses of action to address deficiencies in the use of technology, the construction of the necessary infrastructure, and the design of a viable instructional strategy."

This resonates with me because I see it time after time. Even one-to-one districts aren't doing anything with the computers that they weren't already doing without them. The technology is a Facade. Interesting notion

The author of this book was my professor at Duquesne University during the time he was authoring it. He, at the time was the head of the Instructional Technology Deptartment. As an assignment, we helped to "proofread" and make suggestions...so excited to see it mentioned here. Larry has been ahead of his time in this field for years. Great read, and highly recommended as it offers a different, yet crucial perspective on things.

"This author's position is that asynchronous online discussions face an array of resolvable pedagogical and course management challenges. Online discussions can transform mere course chatter into a cyber forum of student-centered learning through meticulous planning, designing and orchestrating. After introducing common issues, a literature review summarizes the contributions that online discussions bring to distance learning. The author then addresses pedagogical and managerial issues that plague online discussions with strategies that instructors may readily employ. In the pedagogical realm, these include insights on organizing online discussions, using groups to facilitate interactions, establishing discussion parameters, and ensuring that the course syllabus introduces online discussion details. In the managerial realm, approaches are offered regarding overseeing discussion windows, using icebreakers, assessing student performance, ongoing communications, maintaining an online presence, netiquette, and a variety of other online discussion tips.
