Canadian study regarding Idiopathic scoliosis. Idiopathic scoliosis affects 2-5% of adolescents. Study will compare the quality of life, functional outcome, cosmetic result, and the correction of spinal deformity of two instrumentation systems for the treatment of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.

Article abstract of French study assessing neonatal outcomes after instrumental vaginal delivery. Many of the most severe neonatal complications are observed when perinatal asphyxia has occurred. Extractor types and quality of use under defined criteria are closely associated with neonatal adverse outcomes in operative vaginal delivery. Forceps deliveries are as safe as vacuum deliveries to the neonate. In conclusion, operative vaginal delivery performed for maternal or fetal reasons are associated with several neonatal adverse events, usually non specific and with a short term good prognosis.

2010 Ongoing study being conducted by NICHD - STAN Fetal Heart Monitor trial at clinicaltrials.gov - Research to test a new instrument, called a fetal STAN monitor, that may be used during labor to monitor the electrical activity of the baby's heart. This new instrument is designed to help the doctor determine how well the baby is doing during labor. It will be used along with the existing electronic fetal monitor used to measure the baby's heart rate and the mother's contractions during birth. The specific purpose of this research study is to see if this new instrument (fetal STAN monitor) will have an impact on newborn health.

There are two rod sizes routinely used for the correction of juvenile and adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, 5.5mm and 6.35mm, typically stainless steel. Currently there is no scientific evidence supporting the superiority of one size rod relative to the other. This study will evaluate the amount of radiographic correction obtained using the 5.5mm versus the 6.35mm spinal instrumentation rods.

Study is to find out the outcomes of using the PASS LP System to correct adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. This system is a unique set of spinal instrumentation used to surgically correct the rotation and deformity of the spine that is caused by scoliosis. National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke NINDS study will use high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to look for subtle differences in brain anatomy between patients with focal hand dystonia (also called writer's cramp) and healthy normal volunteers. Patients with hand dystonia have prolonged muscle contractions that cause sustained twisting movements and abnormal postures. These abnormal movements often occur with activities such as writing, typing, playing certain musical instruments such as guitar or piano, or playing golf or darts.
