Rough Rider is a modern compressor with a bit of "vintage" style bite and a uniquely warm sound. Perfect for adding compression effects to your drum buss, it also sounds great with synth bass, clean guitar, and backing vocals. Definitely not an all-purpose compressor, Rough Rider is at its best when used to add pump to rhythmic tracks. Of course, you can use it however you'd like. The Compressor Police aren't gonna come to your house and give you a citation. Slap it on a track and crank some knobs. The front panel layout is done the same as many hardware compressors, so it will be immediately obvious how to use it. A brief overview of the controls: Ratio: The ratio knob is logarithmic in operation. Completely anti-clockwise is 1:1, and completely clockwise is 1:1000. The 12 o'clock position is 1:10, so everything to the left of center is single digits, and everything to the right is "atom bomb squish," essentially. Attack and Release: We left off the actual time values, so you're gonna have to use your ears, like the he-men did it in times of myth. Meter: That honking big dial in the middle of the UI is the gain reduction meter. It basically shows how much compression is occurring. Sensitivity: usually called "threshold" now, but we think "sensitivity" always made more sense. Turn to the right, you get more compression, essentially. Turn it all the way to the right, and you've got a distortion box, the sound of which is tuned by Ratio, Attack, and Release. Makeup: 30 dB of gain to compensate for the attenuation caused by the compressor. Active: From the front panel, this is simply an off/on switch, but if you automate it, strange things happen... "Instrument A is a composition and performance environment, controllable using only a single-button interface that can be adapted to each user's needs (e.g. adapted mouse, head interface, space bar). After opening the program for the first time, the user can begin a new composition by selecting one of 49 available loops as the basis of his or her composition. This loop can either be heard or silent during the final performance, but it will give each song its bpm and thus cannot be changed afterwards. The user can then add more loops or build new ones using the 105 samples available, through an interface similar to the one developed for Políssonos. After all the loops are laid out, the user can perform the song by triggering and layering different loop combinations and by freely playing the notes within a loop. Each song can be saved for future performances or subsequent compositional work and each performance can be recorded live as an audio file. MIDI YOKE is a MIDI Patch Cable driver. It is a Windows (Versions 3.1x, 95, 98 and ME) multimedia driver. Also available is a driver for Windows NT and 2000 (unfortunately not as robust). MIDI Yoke NT: This driver works in Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 and Windows XP. It is completely different code from the Windows 9x MIDI Yoke driver. It is hard coded to 8 ports and can't be changed. It is not as robust as the Windows 9x driver, is still Beta code and will not be supported -- use at your own risk. MIDI YOKE is used to connect any Windows MIDI Application outputs to any other Applications inputs. The MIDI data stream is passed directly from output to input -- Example: [ Sequencer Out ]==>[ Out MIDI Yoke In ]==>[ In MIDI-OX 32 ] Another: [MIDI Keyboard In]==>[In MIDI-OX Out]==>[Out MIDI Yoke In]==>[In Sequencer] This allows you to connect the MIDI output from one program to the MIDI input of a different program. MIDI Yoke can be configured to provide a varying number of MIDI Ports (from 1 to 16). In addition, each port allows multiple opens of both input and outputs: up to 4 openings per port.
