GR/DD has developed an innovative interactive augmented reality exhibit for the London Science Museum to enable visitors to understand the science behind climate change. The exhibit located in the science gallery present the visitor with a way in which they can manipulate a scene to alter the amount of carbon that was being released into the atmosphere.
The project required groups of students to study and explore a number of locations in their host cities. Students were broken up into small groups and asked to research specific locations in the cities they were staying. The assignment was entirely location based with students creating an augmented reality layer with these points of interest, uploading geo-tagged photos to a Google map and embedding this map into their blog. All these elements integrated along with their travel journals on the course blog.
PorPOISe is a server for Layar clients. It converts your data sets of POIs (Points of Interest) into responses to the Layar client. Things like JSON formatting and distance calculation are all done for you. PorPOISe supports XML files and SQL databases as data stores.
Konstruct AR 3D Sculpture App
Free Download Download MarkerView Flickr Gallery Konstruct is an investigation into generative art in an Augmented Reality environment. It is a sound reactive AR experience for the iPhone that allows the user to create a virtual sculpture by speaking, whistling or blowing into the device's microphone. A variety of 3D shapes, colour palettes and settings can be combined to build an endless collection of structures. Compositions can be saved to the device's image gallery. You will need to print the marker to use this app.
his paper will answer these questions by taking the ARtours project of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam as a central case study. This particular augmented reality project was initiated by the Stedelijk, in collaboration with design bureau Fabrique, in autumn 2009 and runs to the end of 2011. It is generously funded by the Dutch Ministry of Culture (Innovatie Cultuuruitingen/agentschap.nl).
The Smithsonian's National Postal Museum today launched a new augmented-reality experience that brings to life "Owney the Dog," mascot of the Railway Mail Service. The experience, offered via iPhone and Web applications, is the first multidimensional, augmented-reality experience triggered by a U.S. postage stamp.
INSPIRE will host a new research project, "ARstudio: Creating Opportunities for Multimodal Layered Learning through Augmented Reality" that has won an Australian Learning and Teaching Council Innovation & Development grant ($224000). The project will be lead by the University of Canberra with partners from Australian National University and Macquarie University. The project explores the application of Augmented Reality to expand our concept of learning spaces, to create new dimensions in mobile learning and to increase connectedness of learners in multiple contexts.
Layar's Developer documentation site. With Layar's mobile augmented reality platform, third party developers can create various types of engaging AR experiences, such as recognizing real world objects and displaying digital experiences on top of them with Layar Vision, creating interactive features like 3D objects and animation. Location based layers help users find nearby locations, including restaurants, shops and other businesses, as well as historical locations and monuments.
This paper focuses on Mixed Reality Browsers (MRB) that merge real and virtual worlds somewhere along the virtuality continuum which connects completely real environments to completely virtual ones.
