What You Need to Know About scFv/Fab - 0 views

  •
Fragment antibody-binding (Fab fragment) is a region on an antibody that binds to antigens. It is composed of one constant and one variable domain of each of the heavy and the light chain. Single-chain variable fragment (scFv) is not actually a fragment of an antibody, but instead is a fusion protein of the variable regions of the heavy (VH) and light chains (VL) of immunoglobulins, connected with a short linker peptide of ten to about 25 amino acids.

Antibody Engineering, the Main Force in the Kingdom of Biotechnology - 0 views

  •
Along with information technology, biotechnology is the greatest motivator for global economic development in the 21 century. It is maturing into the leading technology that may reshape the pattern of future industry as well as economy. Following up biotechnology's continuously building itself, antibody engineering, the main force of biotechnology industrialization, has earned itself an important place in this field, bio-pharmacy in particular.

Radioimmunotherapy: Promising treatment for HIV infection and viral cancers - 0 views

  •
February 14, 2009 - (BRONX, NY) - Scientists at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University have piggybacked antibodies onto radioactive payloads to deliver doses of radiation that selectively target and destroy microbial and HIV-infected cells. The experimental treatment - called radioimmunotherapy, or RIT - holds promise for treating various infectious diseases, including HIV and cancers caused by viruses. The research was presented today at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the world's largest general scientific society and the publishers of the journal Science.

Cancer immunology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - 0 views

  •
Cancer immunology is the study of interactions between the immune system and cancer cells (also called tumors or malignancies). It is also a growing field of research that aims to discover innovative cancer immunotherapies to treat and retard progression of this disease. The immune response, including the recognition of cancer-specific antigens is of particular interest in this field as knowledge gained drives the development of new vaccines and antibody therapies. For instance in 2007, Ohtani published a paper finding tumour infiltrating lymphocytes to be quite significant in human colorectal cancer.[1] The host was given a better chance at survival if the cancer tissue showed infiltration of inflammatory cells, in particular lymphocytic reactions. The results yielded suggest some extent of anti-tumour immunity is present in colorectal cancers in humans.

IMMUNE SYSTEM STRENGTHENING - lefeurope.com - 0 views

  •
Age, stress, and poor nutrition can sap our immune system of its effectiveness. Influenza provides one example. During young adulthood, when the body can mount a robust immune response to this common virus, influenza is rarely fatal. Among the elderly, however, the virus is associated with significant rates of death and hospitalization (Nichol KL 2005). The impact of aging on the immune system is profound. As people age, a number of critical immune system components are reduced or slowed, including cellular response, response to vaccines, and antibody production. At the same time, susceptibilities to infection and cancer are increased. Some of this increased susceptibility to disease is linked to chronic inflammation, which is associated with many disorders of aging (Ershler WB et al 2000; Hamerman D 1999; Taaffe DR et al 2000).

Ⅱ: Can Dogs Smell Cancer? - 0 views

  •
Can sniffer dog detection take the place of traditional prostate cancer screening like immunized human antibody library ? It is still too early to draw a conclusion at present. Nobody knows how this sniffer dog detection technology can be applied to clinical use, or whether it can be widely promoted.
