I use the Common Core State Standards everyday when preparing lesson plans. Common Core has an app that can be put on an iphone for an easy search tool. I highly suggest the app.
The Brown University website features a fairytale generator that allows you to select certain folk themes (such as 'villainy,' 'rescue,' 'struggle,' and 'guidance') and folk story presets (such as Cinderella, Hansel and Gretel, and Snow White), and the generator produces a unique story. This concept is based on the theories of Russian scholar Vladimir Propp.
This is a fun page that kids will enjoy. This tool allows you to select certain basic fairytales, like The Gingerbread Man and Little Red Riding Hood, and it prompts you to fill in the blanks of the story with the words of your choosing. Simply click on your word and drag it into the text of the story.
This website is an excellent source for teachers! There are several ideas for bulletin boards, lesson plans, and worksheets. Different teachers have posted their ideas...it reminds me of a Pinterest specifically for teachers...without all the pictures.
This is a comprehensive sight about teaching and caring for children from birth to age 8. I have found a bunch of articles that have helped with this class and my others.
I think this website will be very helpful. It has so many articles and different websites that have so much information about different situations that happen in classrooms and shows ways to handle them. There are also technology ideas and online workshops for teachers.
have read that the brain can only absorb about twenty minutes of information at a time, so I have Brain Breaks in my classes every 20-25 minutes.
breaks last anywhere from two to ten minutes.
The kids love the breaks and settle back down to work quickly. There are almost no fidgeting or off-task behaviors in my room any more, and my active kids really benefit.
