At latitude and longitude coordinates of 0"03N and 37"39E, Meru is a town that has an irresistible pull for the mountain hermit who also loves an urban center that has a bustling life beneath its mountainous veil. Since its proper inception in 1911, through the initiative of a log-cabin dwelling European, the town has maintained its reputation as a warm, welcoming urban center, almost on the brim of the equator. Indeed, it just takes about five miles, on a southerly stretch, to reach the equator from Meru.
