Build A Plane - Plane & Pilot Magazine | PlaneAndPilotMag.com - 0 views

  •
John Burroughs High School in Burbank, Calif. David Vezina had given up a job piloting Learjets to teach kids about aviation. In addition to providing real airplanes to high schools and other interested groups, Build A Plane is working with the National Educational Association, the Wathen Foundation, the FAA, NASA and several key aviation and aerospace organizations to create an aviation-based curricula that teaches science, technology, engineering and math. And for groups that don't have the room or the faculty to construct real aircraft, Build A Plane will soon release a software package and lesson guide that will allow kids to build airplanes virtually.

"The Discovery Center Science Programs address specific State Science Standards and can be applied to a range of grade levels. In each session, the students themselves will be active participants in performing experiments, discovering the reality behind the science and learning how it can be used to impact their own lives. Each of these programs model one 45 minute classroom period of an inquiry-based series of lessons and all use simple, inexpensive and easy to obtain materials."

Math + Video = Success! - 0 views

"Whether your students are learning new and difficult math concepts or simple, basic ones, switching up the way you teach it to them can be beneficial. It is exciting to see lessons and concepts taught in a new way that is unlike the traditional. If students have access to the Internet, they can be exposed to some great videos that teach them tutorials or serve as a refresher of concepts they have learned in the classroom. "

"A mathematician needs functions for the same reason that a builder needs hammers and drills. Tools transform things. So do functions. In fact, mathematicians often refer to them as "transformations" because of this. But instead of wood or steel, functions pound away on numbers and shapes and, sometimes, even on other functions."
