Amateur-built Aircraft & Ultralight Flight Testing Handbook (PDF) - 0 views

  •
To make amateur-built/ultralight aircraft pilots aware that test flying an aircraft is a critical undertaking, which should be approached with thorough planning, skill, and common sense. To provide recommendations and suggestions that can be combined with other sources on test flying (e.g., the aircraft plan/kit manufacturer's flight testing instructions, other flight testing data). This will assist the amateur/ultralight owner to develop a detailed flight

Wright Again - 1 views

  •
LESSON PLANS - A library of fun science experiments to help students understand how the Wrights developed the first powered aircraft. WIND TUNNEL TESTS In 1901, the Wright Brothers conducted wind tunnel tests that helped them learn about lift. With NASA's help, we'll recreate some of those tests. Follow along! COMPUTER SIMULATIONS We're using computers to analyze the Wrights' early wing designs and the 1903 Wright Flyer. What will we learn?

Follow the Desert RATS Team During Analog Testing The NASA Desert Research and Technology Studies team, also known as Desert RATS, marks its fourteenth annual field test and the first time a mission to an asteroid will be simulated. While NASA has landed astronauts on the moon and rovers on Mars, the agency is only beginning to tackle the challenges of visiting an asteroid. Desert RATS team members will conduct simulated human and robotic space exploration test activities in extreme Arizona terrain to investigate and develop realistic technical and mission-driven operations similar to those of an asteroid mission.

" to design and develop well-engineered assessment tools to support US schools in implementing the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CCSS). Tools for formative and summative assessment that make knowledge and reasoning visible, and help teachers to guide students in how to improve, and monitor their progress. These tools comprise: * Lesson Units for Formative Assessment: some focused on math concepts, others on non-routine problem solving - 20 per grade for Grades 7-12. * Professional Development Modules: to help teachers with the new pedagogical challenges that formative assessment presents. * Summative Assessment Task Collection: to illustrate the range of performance goals required by CCSS. * Prototype Summative Tests: designed to help teachers and students monitor their progress, these tests provide a model for examinations that may replace or complement current US tests."

Virgin Galactic 'Enterprise' completes glide test - 0 views

  •
The suborbital commercial tourist spaceship VSS (Virgin Spaceship) Enterprise-also known as SpaceShipTwo-owned by Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic company completed its first unpowered glide test Oct. 10. A video of the flight is on Virgin Galactic's website. Space tourism pioneers to speak at Summit The spacecraft was released from its launch aircraft, WhiteKnightTwo also known as Eve, at 45,000 feet and spent 11 minutes testing systems (including the release mechanism), making a practice approach at a high altitude, and landing at Mojave Air and Space Port in California.

Test a new spacecraft material :: NASA's The Space Place - 0 views

  •
"Being in space is not at all like being on Earth. It's usually very hot or very cold. There's no air. There's very little gravity. And the radiation is terrible! Suppose you are a very smart spacecraft engineer. You have invented a new material to use for the fuel tanks on the spacecraft. But before you send your new material into the harsh environment of space, you must test it on Earth in a space-like situation. "

"World's first manned flight with an electric multicopter. At the end of October 2011, Thomas Senkel of e-volo had completed a series of unmanned tests and was ready for the first manned flight on an airstrip in the southwest of Germany. The flight lasted one minute and 30 seconds, after which the constructor and test pilot stated: "The flight characteristics are good natured. Without any steering input it would just hover there on the spot". "

NASA Virtual Skies - Aeronautical Calculations - 0 views

Aeronautical Calculations: What's with All Those Coefficients Anyway? When aircraft designers decide on the design specifications for a new aircraft, they develop a model that is tested in a wind tunnel. The data collected from wind tunnel tests are used to develop a comparison to how the aircraft will fly at full scale. They make these and other comparisons by using proven aeronautical equations using dimensionless coefficients.

The Open Video Project :: Project Information - 0 views

  •
The purpose of the Open Video Project is to collect and make available a repository of digitized video content for the digital video, multimedia retrieval, digital library, and other research communities. Researchers can use the video to study a wide range of problems, such as tests of algorithms for automatic segmentation, summarization, and creation of surrogates that describe video content; the development of face recognition algorithms; or creating and evaluating interfaces that display result sets from multimedia queries. Because researchers attempting to solve similar problems will have access to the same video content, the repository is also intended to be used as a test collection that will enable systems to be compared, similar to the way the TREC conferences are used for text retrieval.

WEYHRAUCH LAW GROUP Provides legal support to the aviation community & pilots in the HI... - 0 views

  • 'Special Issuance,' may take several YEARS to accomplish. During this time, there is almost always NO salary, the costs associated with it are NOT reimbursed
  • It is, quite literally, the FAA's way, "or the highway." In effect, the pilot is beholden to his/her assigned medical providers (about whom she has no choice) and treatment philosophy.
  • this becomes the pilot's only mode of maintaining sobriety, and the only method about which she can be forthcoming; other modes of maintaining sobriety will elicit suspicion, and delay issuance of the below:
  •
