Seventy-five years of the Douglas DC-3 - 0 views

  •
July 26, 26 DC-3s took off for a formation flight to EAA AirVenture at Oshkosh. The incredible sound of 52 idling engines was surpassed only by the sight of the airplanes passing overhead, in flights of four. One returned to the ramp with a maintenance problem, another aborted its takeoff because of an engine issue, and a third returned with high oil temperature. The remaining 23 made a grand arrival in Oshkosh with an overhead pass.

Space instrument observes new characteristics of solar flares; Findings may lead to imp... - 0 views

  •
"NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory, which is carrying a suite of instruments including a $32 million University of Colorado Boulder package, has provided scientists with new information that energy from some solar flares is stronger and lasts longer than previously thought. See Also: Space & Time * Solar Flare * Sun * Northern Lights Earth & Climate * Geomagnetic Storms * Atmosphere * Energy and the Environment Reference * Solar flare * Solar radiation * Corona * Geomagnetic storm Using SDO's Extreme ultraviolet Variability Experiment, or EVE instrument designed and built at CU-Boulder, scientists have observed that radiation from solar flares sometimes continues for up to five hours beyond the initial minutes of the main phase of a solar flare occurrence."

"Top 10 Air Forces Of The World are based on the countries plane quality and pilot Knowledge. China and India are not included because of their old, out of service, depended to other nation's and lack of pilot training. No matter how good the plane is the pilot has an important rule in combat. "

D-Dalus - an entirely new genre of aircraft arrives - 0 views

  •
"The D-Dalus (a play on Daedalus from Greek mythology) is neither fixed wing or rotor craft and uses four, mechanically-linked, contra-rotating cylindrical turbines, each running at the same 2200 rpm, for its propulsion. The key to the D-Dalus' extreme maneuverability is the facility to alter the angle of the blades (using servos) to vector the forces, meaning that the thrust can be delivered in your choice of 360 degrees around any of the three axes. Hence D-Dalus can launch vertically, hover perfectly still and move in any direction, and that's just the start of the story."

Cheetahs on the Edge--Director's Cut - 0 views

  •
"Cheetahs are the fastest runners on the planet. Combining the resources of National Geographic and the Cincinnati Zoo, and drawing on the skills of an incredible crew, we documented these amazing cats in a way that's never been done before. Using a Phantom camera filming at 1200 frames per second while zooming beside a sprinting cheetah, the team captured every nuance of the cat's movement as it reached top speeds of 60+ miles per hour."

Engineering in K-12 Education: Understanding the Status and Improving the Prospects - 0 views

  •
"Engineering education in K-12 classrooms is a small but growing phenomenon that may have implications for engineering and also for the other STEM subjects--science, technology, and mathematics. Specifically, engineering education may improve student learning and achievement in science and mathematics, increase awareness of engineering and the work of engineers, boost youth interest in pursuing engineering as a career, and increase the technological literacy of all students. The teaching of STEM subjects in U.S. schools must be improved in order to retain U.S. competitiveness in the global economy and to develop a workforce with the knowledge and skills to address technical and technological issues."

How were the Pyramids built? - 0 views

  •
"The ramps likely took the form of an inclined plane at the beginning of work, but the configuration in later stages has long been a matter of conjecture. Some Egyptologists propose a straight, gently sloping, linear ramp, some propose a steep staircase ramp, and others propose a ramp that spiraled up the four sides of the pyramid."

Climate and Earth's Energy Budget : Feature Articles - 0 views

  •
"The Earth's climate is a solar powered system. Globally, over the course of the year, the Earth system-land surfaces, oceans, and atmosphere-absorbs an average of about 240 watts of solar power per square meter (one watt is one joule of energy every second). The absorbed sunlight drives photosynthesis, fuels evaporation, melts snow and ice, and warms the Earth system."

SOLAR IMPULSE - AROUND THE WORLD IN A SOLAR AIRPLANE - 0 views

  •
"The gigantic dimensions of this ultra-lightweight revolutionary airplane - capable of flying day and night without fuel - are its trademark feature. To build it, the whole team had to push back the frontiers of knowledge in materials science, energy management and the man-machine interface. Every one of its take-offs, propelled silently by its four electric motors, inspires us to consider using clean, new technologies to free our society, little by little, from dependence on fossil energy. Skylon Spaceplane | Interesting Engineering - 0 views

"project to take the Skylon spaceplane into the orbit. During most of time it would be used as a normal airplane, like taking off and landing on conventional runways, but the main difference is in the power source of this aircraft. It will be powered by a Sabre engine, specially designed for its purpose. It will be working like a normal jet engine in the lower attitude, breathing in oxygen and when in higher altitude of outer space it will act as a rocket engine. So, we may call it some sort of a "hybrid engine"."

The Electromagnetic Spectrum - Index page - 0 views

  •
"The electromagnetic spectrum is more familiar to you than you might think. The microwave you use to heat your food and the cell phones you use are part of the Electromagnetic Spectrum. The light that our eyes can see is also part of the electromagnetic spectrum. This visible part of the electromagnetic spectrum consists of the colors that we see in a rainbow - from reds and oranges, through blues and purples."

Environmental engineering - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - 0 views

  •
"Environmental engineering is the integration of science and engineering principles to improve the natural environment (air, water, and/or land resources), to provide healthy water, air, and land for human habitation (house or home) and for other organisms, and to remediate pollution sites. Further more it is concerned with finding plausible solutions in the field of public health, such arthropod-borne diseases, implementing law which promote adequate sanitation in urban, rural and recreational areas. It involves waste water management and air pollution control, recycling, waste disposal, radiation protection, industrial hygiene, environmental sustainability, and public health issues as well as a knowledge of environmental engineering law. It also includes studies on the environmental impact of proposed construction projects."
