Curiosity Mars Rover Spins Its Wheels [720p] - YouTube - 0 views

  •
"Uploaded by djxatlanta on Jul 13, 2010 The wheels that will touch down on Mars in 2012 are several rotations closer to spinning on the rocky trails of Mars. This video clip shows engineers in the JPL clean room where the rover is being assembled as they put all six wheels into motion for the first time. Engineers raised the rover just as a car mechanic would hoist a car to check the wheels, and started the "engine" to get the wheels rotating. The wheel mobility system has 10 motors in all-four for steering the rover and six for driving. During this test, all 10 motors ran in every direction. Each wheel spun forward and backwards. "

SOLAR IMPULSE - AROUND THE WORLD IN A SOLAR AIRPLANE - 0 views

  •
"The gigantic dimensions of this ultra-lightweight revolutionary airplane - capable of flying day and night without fuel - are its trademark feature. To build it, the whole team had to push back the frontiers of knowledge in materials science, energy management and the man-machine interface. Every one of its take-offs, propelled silently by its four electric motors, inspires us to consider using clean, new technologies to free our society, little by little, from dependence on fossil energy. Know Your Neurons: The Discovery and Naming of the Neuron | Brainwaves, Scientific Amer... - 1 views

  •
"Neurons-the electrically excitable cells that make up the brain and nervous system-first fascinated me in high school. In college, like so many other students studying the brain, I dutifully memorized the structure of the archetypal neuron. I also remember learning about a few different types of neurons with different shapes and functions: motor neurons that make muscles twitch, for example, and unique sensory neurons in the eyes and nose."

PhysOrg.com - electromagnet - 1 views

  •
"An electromagnet is a type of magnet in which the magnetic field is produced by the flow of electric current. The magnetic field disappears when the current is turned off. Electromagnets are widely used as components of other electrical devices, such as motors, generators, relays, loudspeakers, hard disks, MRI machines, scientific instruments, and magnetic separation equipment, as well as being employed as industrial lifting electromagnets for picking up and moving heavy iron objects like scrap iron."

"You aren't being propelled around the track by a motor or pulled by a hitch. The conversion of potential energy to kinetic energy is what drives the roller coaster, and all of the kinetic energy you need for the ride is present once the coaster descends the first hill.. "

quincymagicinstruments.swf (application/x-shockwave-flash Object) - 0 views

  •
a great primary site to teach students about music and instruments. The site is enchanting with it's interactive story/video platform. It invites students to take part in the story and introduces them to various "magic" instruments. As students learn, they get mouse practice (dragging dropping) for some fine motor skills; matching shapes, and identifying different types of instruments. Students also get exposed to a variety of types of music that instruments are used to create.
