Volunteers from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson spent their weekend helping inspire children from local school districts to get involved in aviation. Volunteers participated in the Build-a-Plane program at Begich Middle School. The program is designed to help motivate children to take an active interest in aviation and life. The program got off the ground of the school after speaker Barrington Irving, the youngest and first African-American to pilot a plane around the world, stopped by the school for a speech, according to Angie Slingluff, FAA Education coordinator.

America's first jet flight, Oct 1942. THIS IS AN INCREDIBLE PIECE OF AVIATION HISTORY. This is a very interesting little piece of historical film. It covers America's entry into the Jet Age with the Bell P59A. part is about the installation of a $2 doorbell ringer to the dash of the P59A to provide vibration so the gauges wouldn't stick. Ya' gotta' love it....

Hercules and the Four Horsemen Filmed in 1960 - The Four Horsemen were the world's only four engine per aircraft demonstration team. Flying four C-130As in close formation, the team would perform a number of maneuvers over a twenty-three minute airshow that closed with a bomb burst -- or as the team called it, Horseman Burst. The show was performed at an altitude of 500 to 1,000 feet.

The KC-135, although similar, is NOT a modified Boeing 707. Excellent documentary on the KC-135 Stratotanker including details on the tri-level refueling that earned the 1967 Mackay Trophy. Also included is a first hand account of towing a crippled F-4 Phantom. This mission received the 1983 Mackay Trophy.

Those memories begin in 1966, and long lines of interesting aircraft spring to mind. "Monthan" is Davis-Monthan Air Force base at Tucson, Arizona. Home of AMARC * or MASDC * as it was known when I first "scouted" it out, travelling there all the way from Scotland. As a schoolboy, I had seen a few photographs of a "Boneyard" in Arizona. They showed stacks of Republic F-84F and F-84G Thunderjets piled four high, that captivated me, it still does. I have made several trips to Tucson and hope to visit a few more times. In this section I will be adding photos and slides taken during these visits, mostly in 1968, when I spent two days walking the base with my good friend Tom Baillie.

This is the first time I have heard the radio chatter while the team performs their maneuvers. it is used to alert the team of changes made by the leader in power settings, control stick pressure, and to remind of the next maneuver to be performed as well as the timing of entry and exit. BLUE ANGELS vs. BEARCATS Here's a little bit of Naval Aviation history in the making to share as we all celebrate 100 years. Gotta love the sound of the R-2800! The old vs. the new .... what a neat story and so well done... The Blue Angels have always been my all time favorites... These pilots have flying in their blood and it shows here. The 90 year old ex pilot......he's still at it and enjoying every moment even though he no longer flies these planes ... he is flying again thru the others.....and loving every second of it.
