The Best Sources For Advice On Using Flip Video Cameras | Larry Ferlazzo's Websites of ... - 4 views

  • There’s a good video on YouTube on How To Use A Flip Video Camera. How To Us A Flip Camera is a simple guide with screenshots. David Pogue of the New York Times has a good review/description on using a Flip, and also has a video. Here are some tips on how to edit your videos after you’ve shot them. Here are some places to get ideas and tips on using them with students: Thirty-Nine Interesting Ways* to use your Pocket Video Camera in the Classroom is a great online presentation from Tom Barrett. 7 Things You Should Know About Flip Camcorders is a good overview on using them in education. Classroom 2.0 has a good discussion on its Forum about using Flips. I believe you can access it without being a member but, if not, it’s free and easy to join. Richard Byrne has started a collaborative project with teachers sharing Many Ways to Use Flip Video Cameras in the Classroom.

HP support forums - touch-sensitive launch buttons not working (HP Compaq 6515b) - 1 views

  •
"touch-sensitive launch buttons not working (HP Compaq 6515b)" One of my teachers is having an issue with her 6515b where the touch strip is not working. A user suggested first removing the battery and the adapter, then reinsert both and reboot. They claimed it worked for them. But, the user also has a bum battery and adapter. Right now the she is running her computer without the battery, using someones adapter.

The Power of Educational Technology: 10 Tips for Beginning Bloggers - 1 views

  •
I found this site while surfing one night. I thought it was pretty interesting so I subscribed to their RSS feed. I use NetNewsWire as my aggregator [feed reader/organizer]. Anyway, I have been trying to get my teachers to use their blogs to get information out to parents, etc. Maybe this blog post can help as a springboard to that end. Look for more from me on RSS and aggregator.

Technology Integration Matrix - 4 views

  •
Would love to get a group of classroom teachers together to have them go through these one by one and color in their matrix. Red for not there, Yellow for could see this done but have not, Green for is happening in my classroom. Maybe some in between colors to signal would like to see this taught on how to do. Then have Administration do it and then let them see the results from the teachers. Maybe that could help us find a direction that would best help us integrate with a buy-in factor.

Android App to access Lotus iNotes. I had a teacher ask if she could access her district email from her new Droid Incredible smartphone. I did a little Googling - lotus webnotes droid incredible app - and came up with this little gem. 10-50k downloads is a fair amount and it has an average of 4 stars. For iPhone users it's a little easier. From the iPhone type in notes.buffaloschools.org in your browser of choice. You should see the same page that you would see if logging in from your desktop. Login, and voila!...cool little interface complete with calendar and contacts.

Gaggle Blogs - 0 views

I attended a Gaggle run webinar, "A Day in the Life of a Gaggle Student", this morning. The presenter highlighted most of the new features and apps students and teachers are likely to use to communicate with each other throughout the day. The package is setup like Google Docs in many ways. Gaggle content is filtered so that educators can provide appropriate content and support to their students in a social media like environment. GoToMeeting was the platform used to conduct the webinar. GoToMeeting is a paid service for delivering webinars and conducting onlinr training and meetings.

Smart mobs...the power of groups to tag and share information
  •
Ah! You've been doing your homework young Jedi! Do we want to apply "some structure" for example ELA8_xxx; use the more popular tags that are recommended when creating a post, or do we let it all evolve?
  •
I tend to use the tags that are provided when I tag in Diigo. Is there something I am missing by not evolving our own tags?
  •
"I tend to use the tags that are provided when I tag in Diigo. Is there something I am missing by not evolving our own tags?" Oh, no not at all. I was thinking down the road when we get teachers hooked on Diigo. Let's say Teacher A wanted to search through his schools' group for ELA content. If the group added ELA_ or Gr8_ as a prefix that might simplify his search. So, in this scenario the provided tags would serve as a base and the prefixes would allow for faster more refined or focused searches.

Copy / Paste by Peter Pappas: How to Teach Summarizing: A Critical Learning Skill for S... - 4 views

  •
Nice artice that brings insight on how to work through levels of cognition for students. So many of them cannot summarize, because, for the most part, teachers may not be using the best techniques to elicit good responses.
  •
While it may be true that teachers may not use the best techniques, summarizing is a difficult skill to teach in and of itself. Most students will equate summarizing with " giving a book report" and misconstrue what summarizing truly entails. Having students sift through details and information to arrive at "the important details" is a continuous cognitive process that children reach at different levels at different times in their cognitive development which is one reason why I think this skill is so difficult to teach.
