This is also gives me some great information about the Pioneer women who lived in South Dakota just like Laura Inglas Wilder did! The Long Winter takes place in South Dakota, too.

I love reading old letters. This allows us to get a wonderful glimpse into history by reading actual letters from the pioneers!

I like this site because it talks about Canada and the pioneer life. It's easy to think that pioneers were only in the US. We need to expand our thinking which this site does a great job helping us learn more about pioneers in Canada.

This include some great sites to explore and learn about the pioneers.

The Pionner Way of Life make some very interesting points about how we may take things for granted and how the way of life was in some respect less stressful!

Summary about the Long Winter.

This webite includes some intersting political cartoons for those of you who may be interested in that. My Grandpa Anderson use to be a polital cartoonist for a newspaper. My mom has one of his caroon drawings on her wall in our living room.

Mount Rushmore is a tribute to President Roosevelt lifes works and accomplishments. I always wondered why Theodore Roosevelt was one of the presidents carved on the rock. After reading the River of Doubt, I now know why.

In our River of Doubt book, the author often compares Teddy Roosevelts son, Kermit, to his brother Elliott. Both had issues with alcohol and attempted suicide. T. Roosevelt could see these similarites and didnt' want his son to go down the same path of his brother. I found it interesting to learn more about his brother who he didn't want his son to turn out like!

Background information about Theodore Roosevelt.

This article has indepth information about the "Rubber Men" of South America. This group eventually wiped out the native tribes from 30,000 to less than 8,000. (By the tiime, Theordore Roosevelt traveled the River of Doubt the Rubber Men were few and far between because now the rubber plantations were in now growing in Southeast Asia.) This group provided great assistance to the Rondon/Roosevelt expedition toward the end of the trip.

I liked this article because talks about the Nhambiquaras tribe. This is the tribe that Rondon worked hard to bring peace with, "Die if need be, but never kill." *See picture of an Nhambiquara Indain with a bow-n-arrow in our River of Doubt book.

I thought this was an interesting article about Theordore Roosevelt and his expedition on the River of doubt. It mentioned that the timing of their trip was the height of the rainy season and was very unwise. In a nutshell it sums up the story nicely.

I thought this was an interesting article about Theordore Roosevelt's wife. After, reading this book, I wanted to learn more about this strong and caring person. I enjoyed the letters that were returned between herself and Theordore and Kermit! I think you will enjoy this article, too.

Interesting Story about Kermit Roosevelt. He lead a very successful life but he also followed in his Uncle Elliott footsteps that involved heavy drinking. He committed suicide at the age of 54 years old.
