    New Egypt Elks to host Touch-A-Truck The New Egypt Elks and the New Egypt United Methodist Church are sponsoring "Touch a Truck" from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 25 at the New Egypt Elks, Lakewood Road (Route 528), Plumsted. Various modes of transportation will be on display to touch, climb and take pictures alongside. The festivities will include music and activities. Food will be available for purchase.     PASADENA - For the past century, men have been running things at Pasadena's Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. That all changed Tuesday night with the installation of Exalted Ruler Virginia Quintero, the first woman in Lodge #672 to reach the top job. "I finally made it there," Quintero said before the ceremony and presentation of her jewels of office - "and the gavel, of course." "I'm very excited, very happy ... and my family's all excited," the 63-year-old nurse said of her elevation to Exalted Ruler. "I don't think they'll treat me differently - but I hope they might," she joked.

    WOONSOCKET - The city and Woonsocket Lodge of Elks will host their annual children's fishing derby on Saturday, April 11, the first day of fishing season. The event takes place at Cass Park pond, where the state Department of Environmental Management has stocked trout.

    An area resident, with the help of the local Elks lodge and American Heart Association, recently presented life-saving equipment to Wethersfield and Rocky Hill schools. The gift was part of a drive led by Portland resident Kevin Sweeney on behalf of the Larry Pontbriant Jr. Athletic Safety Fund. The fund is named after the son of a close friend of Sweeney's. The younger Pontrbriant of Norwich, died running cross country at age 15.
