New Egypt Elks Lodge #2457 recently constructed 10 handicapped accessible picnic tables for the Vineland Veteran's Home. Advertisement Lumber was generously donated by Pro-Build of Lakewood and Ace Hardware of New Egypt. Lodge members delivered the tables as well as sundae toppings and supplies for the veterans to enjoy an ice cream social.

I guess if we have to take people in as members who will not affirm their faith in God then what's the point?

Re: "Belt tightening hits Tacoma Elks Club" (TNT, 6-10). My husband and I had dinner at the Elks Club during an open invitation to the public last year. We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly, and the food and service were very good. We were considering joining the club and asked for an application. One of the questions on the application was, "Do you believe in God?" We consider our personal beliefs to be a private matter. Truly, personal faith is no one else's business.

The South Hills Elks new membership drive is off to a stupendous start! The Elks welcomed and installed 18 new Elks on Tuesday night May 12 at the Lodge. The New Elks were instructed on our virtues, bylaws and our Charity mission. The South Hills Elks is dedicated to assisting the youth of the South Hills along with the Veterans of the Pittsburgh area.

Local Elks Lodge Gets Applause! The State Library (USL) gave the Dixie Elks Lodge # 1749 in St. George a round of applause for their dedicated volunteer efforts for the blind. The Lodge was honored with a service award celebrating their 10 year partnership with USL. The Lodge has provided space in their building for volunteers to repair damaged cassette players. Thousands of cassette players have been repaired saving the State Library the cost of replacing the machines. "The State Library couldn't do what we do without volunteers," says State Librarian Donna Jones Morris. "Last year volunteers donated 1,245 hours repairing cassette players for the blind. It's estimated that the value of each hour of service is nearly $19 which totals more than $23,000 yearly."

Guess the younger generation would rather pay market rates for drinks than associate with old Elks.

Every Week at work we have "Thirsty Thursday" which usually takes place at the local Irish Pub called something like "Local Irish Pub" and we get our drinks and munchies. Usually three to four people show up, have a drink and head home. This week, someone brought up their distaste for the prices at the Irish Pub and that he knows of a place where the drinks are half price. "It's great" he says "It's called The Elk and the drinks are wicked affordable".

Grass skirts, flowered shirts and exotic cocktails gave the flavor of the South Seas at the recent inaugural Rotary Luau Fundraiser held by the Santa Clarita Valley Rotary Club. Co-sponsored by the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, Santa Clarita, Lodge No. 2379, the event helped benefit the club's biannual donations to 15 nonprofit organizations in the SCV.

Tax chief indicted on theft charges Thursday, April 30, 2009 BY TANYA DROBNESS AND CHRIS MEGERIAN Star-Ledger Staff The state attorney general yesterday announced the indictment of Morris County Tax Commis sioner Anthony Crecco on charges of conspiring to steal nearly $300,000 from his Elks Lodge to gamble in Atlantic City.

There's no denying the positives the Elks of Canada have achieved since its inception in 1912. The organization has dedicated itself to working for the good and welfare of the community with priorities for the needs of children, senior citizens and many others in mind. Special concern has always been placed on the need for nearly identification and rehabilitation of hearing-impaired children and their national charity, the Elks and Royal Purple Fund for Children, has contributed over $15 million throughout the country in public awareness and special projects to bring about the early identification of those children.

PORTSMOUTH - The Portsmouth Elks Lodge on Jones Avenue looked like something out of a scene from "Grease" on Saturday when dozens of Seacoast residents came together to dance for a good cause. Marga Coulp - the owner of Classic Cutters Hair Salon - organized a "Sock Hop Charity Dance" with the hopes of raising $5,000 to benefit the Pease Greeters and other organization supporting United States troops.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Apparently tradition runs deep among the Elks, deep enough for the Springfield Lodge of Elks 46th annual fishing derby Saturday at Forest Park. Springfield area boys and girls up to the age of 12 participated in the fishing derby at Barney Pond in Forest Park.

The semi-retired Grand Island salesman is making sure that the Re-Creations - a college-age traveling entertainment group for hospitalized veterans - makes it to the city for the group's 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday shows in Grand Island at the Veterans Medical Center and Veterans Home, respectively.

Moreno Valley Elks Lodge No. 2697 has a new home. After beingon Alessandro Boulevard near Frederick Street since 1985, the group is moving to a new building at Canyon Springs Plaza by Highway 60. "This new place will give us the opportunity to grow and be more involved with the community," said Luella McCabe, the group's Building Chairman and Past Exalted Ruler. Renovation of the new location took about 2 ½ years, but members said it's well worth the wait.

The Mission Viejo Elks recently presented their annual Youth Appreciation Awards to several boys and girls who excelled in scholastics, sports and scouting during the past twelve months.

Intriguing observation about the Loveland elks

I had never set foot into the Elks lodge in Loveland before covering this assignment. I was struck at how untouched the building seemed to be. Untouched since the early 70s that is. I have noticed over the course of my career how I seem to gravitate to things that are dated.

May 12, 2009 - Third-graders at Fletcher Walker Elementary each received a dictionary from members of the Elks Lodge in Susanville. Russell Brown, a former exalted ruler of the Elks Lodge, distributed the books Tuesday, May 5. The dictionaries are purchased through contributions from local Elks members and given to all third-grade students in Lassen County.

Military members heading off to Iraq and Afghanistan often are treated to a favorite meal or a toast to good health with friends and family.

n the early days of the Iraq War, much attention was paid to volunteers on the home front who were assembling care packages to send to the troops overseas. Now that the war has entered its seventh year, those activities are still going strong, but with less fanfare. One organization that that was started in 2007, "Cards for Heroes," has spread across the land and to Los Gatos, where a group of women volunteer to make cards at the Elks Lodge.
