The Pennsylvania State Association, Improved, Benevolent, Protective, Order of the Elks of the World (I.B.P.O.E. of W.), 102 Years of the Pennsylvania State Association 86th State Convention will be held May 28 through June 2 at the Harrisburg East Holiday Inn, Hotel Conference Center, 4751 Lindle Road, Harrisburg.

Known for extending a helping hand to the community, the Atascadero Elks rallied together to aid one of their own on Saturday, hosting a benefit barbecue for Atascadero resident Patty Davis, whose home and belongings were consumed in a recent fire. On April 14, the 33-year Atascadero resident was sitting down to dinner in her Camino Del Robles mobile home when smoke alarms started to go off. When Davis opened the door to her guest bathroom, it was filling with smoke.

MARION - The Marion Elks Lodge 32 donated $750 for the purchase of uniform jackets and trousers for the Marion City Police Department's Explorer Post program. Advertisement Quantcast The contribution was made possible by the Marion Elks, and the Ohio Elks Association, as part of their Community Service Grant program, states a press release.

The Maine Elks Association (MEA) recently honored several youths from across the State of Maine as part of their 80th Annual State Convention held at the Augusta Elks Lodge. The youths were recognized as state winners of contests sponsored by the association. The awards were presented at a special banquet, attended by over 200 members, guests, and families of the recipients.

The South Hills Elks new membership drive is off to a stupendous start! The Elks welcomed and installed 18 new Elks on Tuesday night May 12 at the Lodge. The New Elks were instructed on our virtues, bylaws and our Charity mission. The South Hills Elks is dedicated to assisting the youth of the South Hills along with the Veterans of the Pittsburgh area.

The Mission Viejo Elks recently presented their annual Youth Appreciation Awards to several boys and girls who excelled in scholastics, sports and scouting during the past twelve months.

Intriguing observation about the Loveland elks

I had never set foot into the Elks lodge in Loveland before covering this assignment. I was struck at how untouched the building seemed to be. Untouched since the early 70s that is. I have noticed over the course of my career how I seem to gravitate to things that are dated.

May 12, 2009 - Third-graders at Fletcher Walker Elementary each received a dictionary from members of the Elks Lodge in Susanville. Russell Brown, a former exalted ruler of the Elks Lodge, distributed the books Tuesday, May 5. The dictionaries are purchased through contributions from local Elks members and given to all third-grade students in Lassen County.

Military members heading off to Iraq and Afghanistan often are treated to a favorite meal or a toast to good health with friends and family.

n the early days of the Iraq War, much attention was paid to volunteers on the home front who were assembling care packages to send to the troops overseas. Now that the war has entered its seventh year, those activities are still going strong, but with less fanfare. One organization that that was started in 2007, "Cards for Heroes," has spread across the land and to Los Gatos, where a group of women volunteer to make cards at the Elks Lodge.

RALEIGH -- Most years, the best free-throw shooters in college basketball or the NBA get the ball through the net about 90 percent of the time. Zeb Alford can do better. This year, more than 3 million kids competed in the annual Elks Hoop Shoot, a national free-throw competition for boys and girls ages 8 to 13.

MT. VERNON - Youth from all four Jefferson County high schools were able to find out more about careers by shadowing business people in the community on Thursday during Youth and Business Day, sponsored by the Elks. This year, the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce worked with the Elks to promote the program to area youth.

On Thursday, Linton Mayor Tom Jones signed a proclamation recognizing Municipal Government Week. To kick off this celebration, Jones and the directors of all city departments were on hand to welcome Linton-Stockton students from grades 5 through 12. These students were selected by their respective classroom teachers to participate in the Elks Government Day.

Moreno Valley Elks Lodge No. 2697 has a new home. After beingon Alessandro Boulevard near Frederick Street since 1985, the group is moving to a new building at Canyon Springs Plaza by Highway 60. "This new place will give us the opportunity to grow and be more involved with the community," said Luella McCabe, the group's Building Chairman and Past Exalted Ruler. Renovation of the new location took about 2 ½ years, but members said it's well worth the wait.
