Elks Club to open restaurant By Samantha Swindler / Managing Editor The Tri-County Elks Lodge is taking on a unique fundraising venture - they're planning to open a restaurant on Corbin's Main Street. K.R. Deaton, a member of the lodge's board of trustees, said the Elks are interested in opening a restaurant in the club's remodeled building at 207 North Main Street.

At the recent Elks Convention in Ontario, Gerald Babinski, Exalted Ruler of Lake Elsinore Elks Lodge #2591, donated a check in the amount of $15,669.86 to the Elks Major Project from funds raised by lodge members.

The Thousand Oaks Elks Lodge will host a greet, meet and eat community barbecue from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sat., June 27 at the lodge, 158 Conejo School Road, Thousand Oaks. Members and officers of the patriotic fraternal organization will be available for facility tours and to answer questions and provide a better understanding of the role Elks play in the community. The event will also include music, Gymie-Jo clown and train rides.

It was a windy but sunny day at Mozingo Lake for the 2009 Elks Kids Fishing Tournament. Thirty boys and girls signed up for the event and were split into four age groups. Winners in the age 3-6 group were, first, Gabe Evelore; second, Lanae Eggers; third, Dylon Wilmes; age 7-9 group: Colton Wilmes, Caitlyn Burke and Morgan Goodridge, age 10-12 group: Elijah Greene, Emily Degase and Terrence Eckstein; age 13-14 group: Jace Stroburg and Michelle Verbick. The largest fish was a 6.55 pound catfish caught by Gabe Everlore. Bill Foster, event chairman, gave out the awards of tackle boxes and fishing rods and reels. Other Elks members helped with registration, fish weighing and cooking hot dogs for all attending.

etaluma Elks Lodge The Petaluma Elks Lodge No. 901 is a 1,170-member fellowship that is part of the national Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks. Like the Moose and the Masons, the Elks are a social group that finds ways to serve others. According to club president Bobbi Galbraith, the Elks are second only to the federal government in the amount of scholarship money it gives to students. The Elks also support programs that help the families of children with disabilities and provide eyesight screening tests in schools to detect problems and get the children the help they need early on.

I guess if we have to take people in as members who will not affirm their faith in God then what's the point?

Re: "Belt tightening hits Tacoma Elks Club" (TNT, 6-10). My husband and I had dinner at the Elks Club during an open invitation to the public last year. We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly, and the food and service were very good. We were considering joining the club and asked for an application. One of the questions on the application was, "Do you believe in God?" We consider our personal beliefs to be a private matter. Truly, personal faith is no one else's business.

The Sayre Elks Lodge 1148 hosted the event, in which members of the Valley Color Guard presented many of the former designs of the American flag as a history of the flag's many changes over the years was read by Elks Trustee Al Engelbert.

SUMMIT -- The local Elks Club is enjoying a resurgence in membership, and Exalted Ruler Mike Williams is fairly sure he knows why. "It's the charitable works we do," he said, "and the comradeship we have here, both social and charitable." Moreno Valley Elks Lodge No. 2697 has a new home. After beingon Alessandro Boulevard near Frederick Street since 1985, the group is moving to a new building at Canyon Springs Plaza by Highway 60. "This new place will give us the opportunity to grow and be more involved with the community," said Luella McCabe, the group's Building Chairman and Past Exalted Ruler. Renovation of the new location took about 2 ½ years, but members said it's well worth the wait.

New Egypt Elks Lodge #2457 recently constructed 10 handicapped accessible picnic tables for the Vineland Veteran's Home. Advertisement Lumber was generously donated by Pro-Build of Lakewood and Ace Hardware of New Egypt. Lodge members delivered the tables as well as sundae toppings and supplies for the veterans to enjoy an ice cream social.

Fond du Lac Elks Lodge 57, of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, is hosting the 2009 State Spring Convention of the Wisconsin Elks Association. Elks honored at installation event NASHUA - The Nashua Lodge of Elks 720, an 800-member Nashua-based fraternal organization, closed out its 2008-09 lodge year with the announcement and presentation of its three annual coveted awards. Sherrie Michalewicz was named the recipient of the Elk of the Year award for her contributions to the lodge's successful social activities, children's parties and the betterment of the Nashua Lodge of Elks 270.

Catalina Mountain Elks Lodge No. 2815 hosted lunch for 28 veterans from the blind and the geriatrics centers of the Tucson VA Hospital earlier this month. Veterans Service Committee Chairman Billy Tyre organized the April 4 event with help from Lodge House Committee members, who prepared Mexican food at the veterans' request.

Bobbie Galbraith has been an active member of the Petaluma Elks Lodge No. 901 for eight years, but never imagined that she'd be nominated as the club's first woman to serve as exalted ruler (president). (Mike Jory/Times-Herald) The nearly 50-year-old Redwood Parkway Elks Lodge facility may be sold, though the organization's Vallejo chapter will not fold, a club official said. Local lodge members OK'd the facility's sale, and a one-tenant developer has expressed interest, said Fred Sessler, the real estate broker handling the matter.

This year marks the 51st anniversary of the Elks Lodge in Morden. Morden Elks Lodge is a fraternal organization that raises funds to support local community and children's needs along with supporting the Elks of Canada Purple Cross Fund. This fund is accessible locally to help out children in need of medical care where additional funding is required. While most fraternal organizations are struggling to find new members, the Morden Elks are fortunate to have had a large number of young men - 28 in total - join the organization in the past few years.

WAYNESBORO, PA - The longest running club in Waynesboro is expected to close on Sunday. The Elks Club opened more than 100 years ago, but officials say they've recently been faced with financial issues and declining membership.
