    There's no denying the positives the Elks of Canada have achieved since its inception in 1912. The organization has dedicated itself to working for the good and welfare of the community with priorities for the needs of children, senior citizens and many others in mind. Special concern has always been placed on the need for nearly identification and rehabilitation of hearing-impaired children and their national charity, the Elks and Royal Purple Fund for Children, has contributed over $15 million throughout the country in public awareness and special projects to bring about the early identification of those children.

The local Dictionary Project is being funded through a donation from the Watertown Elks Lodge. The idea for The Dictionary Project began in 1992 when Annie Plummer of Savannah, Ga., gave 50 dictionaries to children who attended a school close to her home. Each year she continued to give this gift, raising money to help give more and more books so that in her lifetime she raised enough money to buy 17,000 dictionaries for children in Savannah.
